UFC 307 main event star reportedly rushed straight to hospital for CT scan

The UFC 307 main event just concluded, and in brutal fashion no less, with one of its participants being transported to a local hospital for a CT scan. That is, at least, according to a tweet from MMA reporter Alex Behunin, who revealed that Khalil Rountree Jr. was the UFC 307 main event fighter in question.

The 34-year-old was reportedly hospitalized as a precautionary measure in relation to possible injuries to his head and a definite one on his face. However, as of this writing, there are no further details on Rountree's condition.

"I've been told that Khalil Rountree has been transported to the hospital for a precautionary CT scan for his head and face."

Ironically, Alex Pereira, who retained his light heavyweight title by TKO'ing his foe, was on the receiving end of a knockdown in round two. However, despite initially struggling with Rountree's speed and eating several heavy shots, he ultimately took over the fight with a ruthless edge to close out the show at UFC 307.

He turned things up toward the end of round three as Rountree slowed down, before authoring a lopsided beating in round four, battering and bloodying his opponent. Rountree fought tooth and nail to survive, but his right eye quickly swelled shut and his face was a bloody mess with multiple cuts.

In the end, he succumbed to a relentless assault from Pereira, who rocked him several times before dropping him with body shots. Despite the loss, Rountree gave a good account of himself, with the UFC 307 crowd drowning him in a chorus of appreciation.

Unfortunately, the loss snaps his five-fight win streak, while Pereira is now on his own five-fight win streak, with three title defenses at light heavyweight. A possible stint at heavyweight could be in his future, especially after he honored Sean Strickland's request not to meddle in the middleweight division.

However, the specter of Magomed Ankalaev, who has been campaigning for a title shot against 'Poatan,' has been looming over the champion's future. The Dagestani 205-pounder is currently scheduled to face Aleksandar Rakić at UFC 308, and a win would almost certainly earn him a crack at the belt.
