UFC 309 marks the return of not one, but two UFC legends. Jon Jones and Stipe Miocic will square off for Jones' heavyweight strap at Madison Square Garden in New York City on Nov. 16, 2024. Heading into the high-profile event, we examined the reported purses/payouts.
These figures haven't been officially confirmed and are estimated based on previous payouts the fighters have received. Furthermore, a fighter's total earnings from a given fight are generally higher than the disclosed purses, owing to bonuses, perks, etc.
As reported by Sporty Salaries, Jon Jones' old contract bagged him $500k per fight, while his new one fetches him $3 million. 'Bones' also receives pay-per-view (PPV) points. Jones' total payout will depend greatly on PPV buys, but if UFC 309 does more than 800k buys, he could earn north of $12 million.
Additionally, Stipe Miocic's guaranteed purse for the fight is $1 million. Miocic's overall pay could rise to $3 million, owing to PPV points.
Former UFC lightweight champion Charles Oliveira's guaranteed purse for UFC 309 is $500k. Oliveira's total payout could rise to over $1 million if the event does 800k-plus buys. Meanwhile, Michael Chandler could bag a $500k guaranteed purse. Chandler's total payout could be over $1.5 million, provided the card does 800k-plus buys.
Also, the UFC usually awards a POTN (Performance of the Night) and FOTN (Fight of the Night) bonus of $50k each.
Jones' $3 million guaranteed purse could come with a win bonus (provided he wins) of up to $100k, and $42k as sponsorship pay. Miocic's guaranteed purse is $1 million, and he could take home bonuses of up to $100k, with sponsorship pay adding another $32k.
Charles Oliveira's guaranteed purse of $500k could come with a $100k win bonus and $16k sponsorship pay. Michael Chandler's guaranteed purse of $500k could be accompanied by a $100k win bonus and $21k sponsorship payout.
Other fighters competing at UFC 309 will also bag six-figure purses. Middleweight Paul Craig could earn a guaranteed $200k purse, $100k win bonus, and $11k sponsorship pay.
Women's flyweight Viviane Araujo could bag a $110k guaranteed purse, $100k win bonus and $11k sponsorship payout. Bantamweight Jonathan Martinez's expected payouts in that regard are $110k, $100k and $10k. Ex-UFC middleweight champion Chris Weidman's expected numbers are $400k, $100k and $21k. Middleweight Eryk Anders' numbers are $200k, $100k and $16k.
Veteran lightweight Jim Miller's expected payouts are $350k, $100k and $21k. His opponent Damon Jackson's numbers could be $150k, $100k and $16k. Heavyweight Marcin Tybura could bag $300k, $100k and $21k. Welterweight Mickey Gall could take home $150k, $100k and $11k.

Per SportsCasting, the total fighter payout for the UFC 309 card could be around $10 million, of which the majority would go to headliners Jon Jones and Stipe Miocic. Jones is expected to bag approximately $5 million, win or lose. A dominant win could take Jones' pay to $8-10 million. Jones' biggest purse was reported to be $3.54 million from his most recent fight, against Ciryl Gane in March 2023.
As for Miocic, he too is expected to secure a lucrative payout, irrespective of the outcome. He could bag a career-high payday with a victory over Jones. Miocic previously earned a $1.19 million purse for his trilogy fight against Daniel Cormier in Aug. 2020 and his rematch against Francis Ngannou in March 2021 respectively.
