UFC bantamweight champion Aljamain Sterling announces stem-cell replacement treatment to recover earlier and face Henry Cejudo
There is a new development in the much talked about UFC bantamweight championship bout between Aljamain Sterling and Henry Cejudo.
Sterling provided an update on his social media that he is scheduled to get treatment on his injured bicep and still plans on fighting against the returning Cejudo.
'Funkmaster' mentioned that he will be receiving stem-cell replacement treatment from 'bioXcellerator,' which has earned great reviews from other athletes and fighters:
"Next weekend I’m off to Medellin, Colombia, for the @bioXcellerator stem cell treatment program! I’m very optimistic that this will have me back and ready to compete sooner than later."
'Funkmaster' is hopeful that the treatment will allow him to recover without undergoing surgery. In a video included with the tweet, he mentioned that he wants to be another fighter to benefit from the treatment:
"I know Joe Rogan has nothing but good things to say. I know Kamaru Usman, Frankie Edgar, Chris Weidman, Al Iaquinta...so I'm hoping I could follow in these guys footsteps and have nothing but success with the results and the trip all the way out there to Colombia."
It remains to be seen what the timetable will look like for his return. With plenty of big fights scheduled in the bantamweight division, it will be interesting to see how long the promotion is willing to wait for Sterling to return and defend his title against the former two-division champion.
Aljamain Sterling vs. Henry Cejudo was originally planned for UFC 287
It looked as though Aljamain Sterling vs. Henry Cejudo was in the works for UFC 287, but that didn't materialize. Dana White announced that middleweight champion Alex Pereira would defend his title against Israel Adesanya in the main event. Gilbert Burns versus Jorge Masvidal will serve as the co-main for the card.
Based on current plans, it seems unlikely that the bantamweight championship will be contested at UFC 287. 'Funkmaster' receiving stem-cell treatments from bioXcellerator could speed up his recovery, but it's still unclear how long he will be out of action.
'Funkmaster' vs. 'Triple C' is an intriguing matchup, and there is a lot at stake for both. The reigning champion could silence the naysayers and defeat the former champion, who never lost the title. Meanwhile, Cejudo could prove that he hasn't lost a step during his three-year hiatus and is still the top 135-pounder in the world.
