UFC champ Dricus du Plessis raves over Surya Kumar Yadav's incredible catch in cricket World T20 finals, congratulates India on win over South Africa

On June 29, the 2024 ICC Men's T20 World Cup concluded with India taking the crown with a decisive win over South Africa. Of the millions of fans watching worldwide, UFC middleweight champion Dricus du Plessis offered his thoughts on the game with his home country being involved in the finals for the first time.

After the game, Du Plessis congratulated India on their title victory, declaring Surya Kumar Yadav's iconic catch the "best catch in history." The 30-year-old also made a point to show his home team appreciation for their efforts throughout the month-long tournament.

As a proud representative of the African country, 'Still Knocks' is a frequent supporter of South African sports teams and athletes, particularly during international competitions. Aside from fighting, Du Plessis is notably a big fan of soccer and rugby.

The recently crowned champion is scheduled to defend his title on Aug. 17 in the main event of UFC 305 against former titleholder Israel Adesanya. Du Plessis won the belt in January with a hard-fought split decision win over Sean Strickland at UFC 297.

Does Dricus du Plessis still live in South Africa?

Several African fighters have held UFC belts in the past but Dricus du Plessis became the first to become a UFC champion from the country of South Africa. In each octagon appearance, Du Plessis has confidently epitomized his homeland while always showing support for other countrymen.

Throughout his rise in KSW and subsequent success in the UFC, Du Plessis has remained in South Africa and chose not to move to the United States like many other aspiring martial artists. 'Still Knocks' has remained true to his roots, still primarily training with the Team CIT MMA gym and head coach Morne Visser.

At Team CIT MMA, Du Plessis most notably trains with fellow UFC fighter Cameron Saaiman.

Even with his increasing success in the UFC and most of the company's available resources based in the United States, Du Plessis does not appear to have any desire to leave South Africa.
