UFC fighter Antonio Trocoli arrested for battery after allegedly assaulting Mackenzie Dern's ex-husband
Antonio Trocoli made his promotional debut in June as he suffered a third-round TKO loss to Sharabutdin Magomedov at UFC on ABC 6. The middleweight contender is scheduled to face Tresean Gore at UFC Fight Night 247 next month. He was arrested this past Friday, however, and is facing misdemeanor battery charges in Huntington Beach, California.
The alleged incident involved Wesley Santos, the ex-husband of No. 6-ranked women's strawweight Mackenzie Dern, who is now dating 'Malvado'. The Huntington Beach Police Department confirmed Trocoli's arrest in a statement to MMA Fighting, saying:
"A subject by the name of Antonio Trocoli da Silveira Filho was arrested by the Huntington Beach Police Department on Oct. 4, 2024, at approximately 8:30 a.m. in the 8700 block of Dolphin Street, Huntington Beach. He was arrested for misdemeanor battery, and the case has been sent to the Orange County District Attorney’s Officer for review." [h/t MMA Fighting]
Charges have not been officially brought against Trocoli, however, it is not uncommon for official filings to take some time. It is unclear what punishment the mixed martial artist would face if convicted. The arrest is unlikely to bring his bout with Gore into jeopardy as he is seemingly no longer in police custody.
Mackenzie Dern's ex-husband shares statement on Antonio Trocoli incident
While Antonio Trocoli and Mackenzie Dern have both yet to address the former's arrest, the No. 6-ranked women's strawweight's ex-husband Wesley Santos shared his side of things. The professional surfer released a statement to MMA Fighting, stating:
"Mackenzie Dern is my ex-wife and after our divorce she married Antonio ‘Malvado’ Jose Trocoli da Silveira Filho. We divorced and have shared custody of our daughter Moa, but Antonio never stopped following me. We had a deal that he would not be part of the custody but he was always nearby, threatening and disturbing in every custody change. He sent messages through Moa, saying he would beat me up, and Moa told me clearly."
Dern continued:
"I dropped my daughter at school this past Friday and was going back home on a skateboard when I saw a white car stop, and I started recording. It was Antonio. He got out of the car and punched me, and the car kept moving [along], and he ran back inside the car. Cops were called, there were several witnesses, and Antonio was arrested for battery." Moa, the daughter Santos shares with Dern, was born in 2019 leading the latter to take a temporary break from her mixed martial arts career. The couple separated in 2022 and ultimately divorced with the No.6-ranked women's strawweight publicly accusing the surfer of physical abuse.
