Paulo Costa confirms reaching a new deal with UFC
After nearly a year of inactivity due to a pay dispute with the UFC, Paulo Costa has confirmed that he has reached a new deal with the organization. The No. 5-ranked middleweight had previously turned down the opportunity to face Robert Whittaker at UFC 284 and expressed his desire to become a free agent due to what he deemed to be unfair pay.
However, it appears that the contract dispute has come to an end as Costa recently announced that he has signed a four-fight contract to remain in the UFC. Speaking to PVT, the 31-year-old said:
"I haven't signed the contract yet but we have reached a deal with the UFC regarding the pay. It wasn't easy, there was a lot of hard work, and I have to highlight Tamara's brilliant work here."
The middleweight fighter also shared that he is in talks to face either Sean Strickland in May or Khamzat Chimaev at UFC 294 in Abu Dhabi this October. Paulo Costa expressed his desire to fight both opponents over the course of his new contract. He stated:
"I want that, too. [The UFC] wants to make sure this Chimaev fight happens at all costs, but I want to make both happen. We'll see."
The news of Paulo Costa's new deal with the UFC will undoubtedly be welcomed by fans who have been eagerly awaiting the return of the Brazilian fighter to the octagon.
