UFC legend expresses excitement as Alex Pereira honors his indigenous roots during a recent visit to Pataxo tribe: "This guy could be of help"
Alex Pereira recently visited his native Pataxo tribe in Brazil to reconnect with his indigenous roots. The reigning UFC light heavyweight champ joined his community in ceremonial dances and a range of traditional practices that highlight the unique culture of his heritage. 'Poatan' even showcased his archery skills, a symbolic moment that reflects his warrior spirit both inside and outside of the octagon.
Pereira’s visit to the Pataxo tribe drew admiration from the MMA community, including former UFC middleweight and analyst Chael Sonnen who seemed quite fascinated with what he saw. Responding to a tweet about Pereira's archery practice, 'The Bag Guy' shared a lighthearted yet reverent take on 'Poatan's' skills, writing:
"If you get in a jam and can only choose 1 person to come save you, choose me. But if you can choose 2, this guy could be of help."

Alex Pereira had the UFC fans wondering if he would headline the UFC 310 on Dec. 7 when he posted a phone emoji on social media after welterweight champion Belal Muhammad pulled out from his main event title fight against Shavkat Rakhmonov.
However, Magomed Ankalaev, who has been quite vocal about his desire to fight for the title next, mocked Pereira for his participation in his indigenous ceremony. He suggested that the Brazilian should focus on preparing for the fight instead.
"Focus on MMA, voodoo is not gonna help you my son. I promise all my friends I'm going to punish this guy I will knock him out Inshallah."
In another post, the Dagestani claimed that Alex Pereira wasn’t ready to take the fight on short notice at the upcoming pay-per-view card.
"Fake News I'm the only one who was ready for December but he deserve rest."

Ankalaev is currently ranked No.1 in the division and could be next in line to challenge Pereira following his unanimous decision victory over Aleksandar Rakic at UFC 308 last month.
Pereira, meanwhile, made a third successful defense of his light heavyweight crown with a fourth-round TKO of Khalil Rountree Jr. at UFC 307 in October.
