UFC legend Georges St-Pierre reveals Floyd Mayweather reached out to him for boxing match, shares conditions he laid down for the fight
Former UFC champion Georges St-Pierre claims that he was approached by boxing legend Floyd Mayweather for a potential boxing match. St-Pierre revealed that he was presented with certain conditions for the fight to take place, which he ultimately rejected.
In a recent discussion with combat sports journalist Aaron Bronsteter, the former two-division champion disclosed that he has been approached numerous times by Floyd Mayweather's management team regarding a possible boxing bout. However, Georges St. Pierre made it clear that he has certain criteria that must be met before he agrees to step into the ring.
The iconic Canadian fighter emphasized that his primary concerns are centered around the inherent risks associated with any combat sport, and as such, 'Rush' is not willing to compromise his health for any amount of money or fame.
Georges St-Pierre remarked:
"The biggest name in boxing came up to me, to fight me in boxing. And I told him, because for me it's a question for my honour it's not money. You cannot buy me. I said to him that, you'll let me use leg kicks and takedown. Well it's one or the other, I'm not gonna box the best boxer for money. If they wanna fight me they have to accept my term."
Joe Rogan asserts that Jorger Masvidal would be dangerous for a peak Georges St-Pierre
According to Joe Rogan, a well-known commentator and martial arts enthusiast, some of the top welterweights in the current era, including Jorge Masvidal, would have posed a serious challenge to Georges St-Pierre during his prime.
St-Pierre is widely regarded as one of the most exceptional fighters in the history of the UFC's welterweight division. The Canadian athlete achieved unprecedented success as a two-division champion and defended his title on nine separate occasions from 2007 to 2013.
Rogan's statement implies that St-Pierre's dominance of the welterweight division during his prime was not absolute, and that contemporary fighters possess the skills and ability to compete with him on an even playing field.
During a recent episode of The Joe Rogan Experience (#1956), the UFC commentator remarked:
"You look at Georges St-Pierre’s victories, he beat some very good guys, but I think the guys Kamaru Usman beat- Colby Covington, Jorge Masvidal, Tyron Woodley, I think they are better... I think if Masvidal was around at that time he would be dangerous for everybody, I think he is on another level. I think everyone is on another level... He is a f***king assassin. Masvidal is a gangster.”
