UFC legend Jose Aldo confirms he is in talks with Floyd Mayweather's team for exhibition bout later this year
UFC legend Jose Aldo is hoping to get a crack at undefeated boxing legend Floyd Mayweather Jr. later this year.
During a recent interview with MMA Fighting's Guilherme Cruz, the former UFC featherweight champion revealed that he's in talks with Mayweather's team for an exhibition bout with the undefeated boxer.
'Junior' further clarified that the bout has already been verbally agreed upon by both parties:
"His side has already agreed, my side too, We’re now waiting for (the promoters) to get the deal done. [Transcripts via MMA Fighting]"
Although the duo will be locking horns in an exhibition fight, Aldo suggested that he's approaching it as seriously as any other pro event:
"It might be an exhibition on (Mayweather’s) side, but not for me. It’s punch to the face like always. He knows that."
Earlier this Friday, the mixed martial arts legend passed his pro-boxing debut with flying colors by picking up a unanimous decision win over Emmanuel Zambrano at Shooto Boxing in Rio de Janeiro.
The Brazilian is already slated for his second boxing bout against his former UFC foe Jeremy Stephens at the upcoming Gamebred Boxing 4 event on April 1.
Floyd Mayweather, meanwhile, has been a part of numerous lucrative exhibition bouts since retiring from the sport in 2017. In his most recent fight, 'Money' made light work of YouTuber Deji Olatunji by securing a sixth-round TKO.
Interestingly, Mayweather's last pro fight was against UFC superstar Conor McGregor, which he won via TKO.

When Floyd Mayweather said that MMA was for "beer drinkers"
Although Floyd Mayweather has fought MMA's biggest superstar Conor McGregor during his boxing career, 'Money' doesn't hold the sport of mixed martial arts in high regard.
During a promotional event for his 2009 fight against Juan Manuel Marquez, Mayweather discredited MMA by saying that it was a sport for "beer drinkers". According to him, mixed martial arts is not fit for human beings:
"It takes true skills to be in the sport of boxing, and mixed martial arts is for beer drinkers, boxing is for everybody. ... I mean you can't take my shoes off and take my shirt off and just throw me in a cage. You do that with animals, you don't do that with humans."
