UFC newcomer sends message to Jon Jones after debut win, takes a dig at Dana White for bonus: "Maybe I am his type"
A UFC fighter recently made some remarks about Jon Jones following his debut win. In addition, the individual referred Jones to take a playful jab at Dana White regarding the fight bonus.
The fighter in question is Mansur Abdul-Malik, who made his octagon debut in a middleweight bout against Dusko Todorovic on the main card of UFC Vegas 100. The fight night event took place this past Saturday at UFC Apex in Las Vegas, Nevada.
From the first bell, Abdul-Malik positioned himself aggressively and bombarded Todorovic with powerful blows. The 27-year-old followed up with punishing strikes after sending his opponent sprawling to the canvas.
Despite the Serbian's attempt at a submission, Abdul-Malik delivered a brutal knee that sent Todorovic down. He proceeded to land ground-and-pound shots, prompting the referee to intervene and call off the fight. The American's performance was praised by many MMA personalities and fans across the world.
Following his win, Abdul-Malik was asked about his chances of getting a fight bonus during the post-fight press conference. He responded by comparing his good looks with Jones, who has always been a favorite of White:
''Forget the finishes, look at that handsome man on the screen. I think I might be one of the most good-looking middleweights on the roster so if you take that into consideration, I'm getting that bonus... I mean, hey Jon Jones, that's a tall, good-looking black man. As am I. So maybe I am his [Dana White] type."
Abdul-Malik was then informed about Jones' attendance at the event and asked whether he was aware of it. The UFC debutant responded:
''No, I didn't see him [Jones]. I hope I get to meet him. That's someone I've watched since a little kid... So I hope I get to meet him. Where's he at? So hopefully I get to meet him.''
