Dustin Poirier is certain he will put Colby Covington in his place despite not agreeing to the welterweight's callout.

Covington and Poirier have been trading insults even before UFC 272. 'Chaos' reiterated in his post-fight press conference that he wants 'The Diamond' to be his next opponent and the clash is "on sight".

Meanwhile, Poirier has suggested that Covington fight a welterweight contender instead. The Louisiana native stressed in a now-deleted tweet that he's not letting 'Chaos' take home a huge purse by fighting him in the UFC. However, the former lightweight title contender affirmed that a square-off between the two outside the cage is still very much on:

"He's not making money off my name, it's still on sight you f****** sheep"

'The Diamond' recently addressed the issue once again in an interview with MMA Fighting. According to Dustin Poirier, Covington could be a little desperate to get another crack at the welterweight belt, but fighting him is not the way to do it.

Poirier also feels that mentioning his name during interviews is doing 'Chaos' good in terms of marketing. However, 'The Diamond' says that he's not going to respond with trash-talk because that's not his style:

“It’s cute. It’s all good. It is what it is. People want big fights. That’s a big fight. He wants a big fight. Obviously, he’s not in line for the title fight. He lost twice to the champ so he probably needs a few more wins, but I would think if you want to get back to that strap, you’ve got to fight welterweight contenders… It’s [calling me out] working for him [Covington]. He’s got people talking. You’re asking me about him. But it’s just not my style. That’s what I dislike about the sport nowadays.”

ATT founder Dan Lambert gets real with Colby Covington's drama with Dustin Poirier

Colby Covington is doing his best to get under Dustin Poirier's skin. Aside from the taunts, the two-time welterweight title contender also claims Conor McGregor is the real father of Poirier's child.

Some may think that 'Chaos' has already gone overboard with his verbal attacks. However, American Top Team (ATT) boss Dan Lambert reckons that Covington knows 'The Diamond' is a pay-per-view star and so he's just making a pitch for a big payday.

In a recent interview with 'The Schmo', Lambert explained:

"It is what it is. It's talk. It's just talk... I mean everybody wants to fight Dustin [Poirier], everybody wants to fight Jorge [Masvidal]. They're the stars, they're the big paychecks. Who doesn't want to fight a guy like that if they're in that weight class?"
