UFC star Kelvin Gastelum slams U.S. Govt. over viral video of emotional hurricane victim: "They’ve sent BILLIONS to other countries"

UFC fighter Kelvin Gastelum recently criticized the U.S. government for failing to provide Hurricane Helene victims with much-needed assistance. Gastelum emphasized that rather than spending enormous sums of money aiding other war-torn nations, the American government ought to focus its attention on its citizens.

Helene struck Florida's Big Bend region before moving north into Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina, and Tennessee. According to CNN, 56 individuals in North Carolina, 30 in South Carolina, 25 in Georgia, 11 in Florida, four in Tennessee, and two in Virginia have lost their lives as a result of the hurricane.

An X user named Shadow of Ezra recently posted a video of a distressed victim sobbing after being forced from his home by the hurricane, writing:

''A heartbroken patriot has lost all faith in his government after being displaced from his home by the recent hurricane. The United States has allocated over $16 billion to support Ukraine and Israel, leaving its own citizens feeling neglected and abandoned.''

Gastelum responded by expressing his sympathy for the person and criticizing the U.S. government for failing to provide the required assistance. He wrote:

''This is excruciating and heart breaking. Meanwhile they’ve sent BILLIONS to other countries.''

In his last octagon outing at UFC Saudi Arabia, Gastelum took on Daniel Rodriguez. Although the 32-year-old prevailed by unanimous decision, his victory was tainted by his inability to meet the non-title welterweight limit of 171 pounds, so the fight went ahead as a middleweight contest.

Referee Marc Goddard discusses Israel Adesanya vs. Kelvin Gastelum title fight

Marc Goddard officiated Kelvin Gastelum's interim title fight against Israel Adesanya at UFC 236, which left the English referee in tears when he later reflected on the five-round barnburner.

Goddard recently discussed how he felt after Gastelum's clash against Adesanya in an interview with talkSPORT MMA, saying:

''That fight, when you've got two fighters that went into the deepest, f***ing darkest depths of their soul, and I was right alongside them, standing three feet away, witnessing this unfold... You watch the fight when it finishes, I run off straight away, I know they're safe. Head in my hands, and I won't be ashamed to say I've cried after that fight. Watching it back, because it was ungodly what those guys did, it was ungodly."
