UFC star takes a jibe at golfing legend Tiger Woods following recent tampon controversy
Sean Strickland, one of the most outspoken fighters in the UFC, has jibed at Tiger Woods over his recent tampon controversy.
This past Thursday, Woods handed a tampon to fellow golfer and friend Justin Thomas during the Genesis Invitational's first round. It's believed that the legendary golfer did so as Thomas failed to hit the ball further than he did.
Woods' critics claim that he gave the tampon to Thomas to insinuate that the latter was a girl, subtly referencing the sexist trope that someone who doesn't play well plays like a girl.
UFC middleweight star Sean Strickland has now tweeted about the incident. 'Tarzan' lightheartedly labeled Tiger Woods as "the man who made golf cool."
Sean Strickland also highlighted Tiger Woods' illicit affairs, substance abuse, and Woods' immense wealth. Noting that he himself should've become a golfer, Strickland tweeted:
"All the drugs.... Women.... Money and now this... Why didn't I become a f**king golfer!?!?! No one told me it was like this.... :/"
Furthermore, Sean Strickland once again indicated that he ought to have chosen golf as a career. Jokingly lamenting his decision to become an MMA fighter rather than a golfer, Strickland tweeted:
"Man I'm just pi**ed no one told me golf was like this.... I would of been smacking balls instead of people."
As reported by ESPN, Tiger Woods subsequently explained that he and his friend Justin Thomas play practical jokes on one another and that the tampon exchange was intended to be a joke. Apologizing for possibly having offended anyone, Woods stated:
"As I said, if I offended anybody in any way, shape or form, I'm sorry... It was not intended to be that way. It was just we play pranks on one another all the time and virally I think this did not come across that way, but between us it was - it's different."
Is a potential fight between UFC fan-favorites Sean Strickland and Paulo Costa on the cards?
Sean Strickland's most recent fight witnessed him replace an injured Kelvin Gastelum on short notice and defeat Nassourdine Imavov in a light heavyweight bout back in January.
In an Instagram video, Strickland later suggested that he'd like to face fellow fan-favorite UFC middleweight Paulo Costa next. 'Tarzan' wrote in the caption of his post:
"I think me and @borrachinhamma should do the man dance? I'll even buy the wine..... What do you all think?"
Strickland jibed at Costa for blaming wine for his loss against Israel Adesanya in their UFC middleweight title matchup, besides also criticizing 'Borrachinha' for missing weight in the past. Costa, for his part, was seemingly unfazed by Strickland's call-outs and jibes. Neither Strickland nor Costa's respective next opponents and comeback dates have been officially announced as of yet.
