UFC Vegas 94: Amanda Lemos vs. Virna Jandiroba: Full results

UFC Vegas 94 just wrapped up. The event took place at the UFC Apex Facility in Las Vegas, Nevada on July 20 and featured 11 fights in seven weight classes. This article recaps the event and explores the full results.

In the main event, No.3-ranked strawweight contender Amanda Lemos fought No.5-ranked Virna Jandiroba. Since coming up short in her title fight against Zhang Weili, Lemos had defeated Mackenzie Dern to get back in the win column. Meanwhile, Jandiroba was on a three-fight winning streak with her latest win against Loopy Godinez.

Jandiroba's takedown and submission threat dictated the fight as Lemos appeared hesitant to implement her striking. While Lemos reversed positions on the ground and offered good resistance after being taken down, an ill-advised maneuver in the closing minute of the second round enabled Jandiroba to get a tight armbar. Lemos tried for a considerable amount of time but eventually tapped out. The win extended Jandiroba's winning streak to four.

The co-main event was a clash of featherweights Steve Garcia and Choi Seung Woo. The fight was bumped to the co-headlining spot after Brad Tavares vs. Park Jun-yong was canceled as the South Korean was medically not cleared.

After a few initial exchanges and a feeling-out process, Garcia clipped Woo with several left hooks that eventually sent him down to the canvas. The referee stepped in to save the South Korean fighter from absorbing unnecessary punishment. the end came at the 1:36 mark of the first round. This was Garcia's fourth straight KO win.

UFC Vegas 94 main card: Hyder Amil, Bruno Silva, and Doo-Ho Choi score knockouts

Veteran fighters Kurt Holobaugh and Kaynan Kruschewsky fought each other in an attempt to get back in the win column. Holobaugh appeared to be the better fighter in the striking as well as grappling departments, controlling long stretches of the contest.

Kruschewsky showed flashes of brilliance and his moments but could not enjoy consistent success, losing the bout by unanimous decision.

Top 15 flyweight Cody Durden took on Brazil's Bruno Silva to defend his No.14 rank in the division. The duo was expected to fight in September but Durden was removed from the fight to fill in for Tagir Ulanbekov. The fight was then rebooked for UFC Vegas 94.

Durden appeared to be the better fighter on the night as he steadily moved toward victory with effective striking and grappling. However, Silva's knockout power changed the complexion of the fight quickly as he dropped Durden with an uppercut that sent his mouthpiece flying in the octagon.

A barrage of follow-up punches and elbows prompted the referee to step in and stop the action. With the impressive come-from-behind victory, Silva is now on a four-fight win streak with 3 three T/KO and one submission.

One of the more popular South Korean fighters, Doo-ho Choi returned to competition against Bill Algeo on the UFC Vegas 94 main card.

Choi got close with a few submission attempts off the clinch in the early going while Algeo stung him with a few clean shots that visibly hurt the South Korean fighter.

As Algeo appeared to be dictating the fight in the second round, Choi landed a left hook that rocked the American. Algeo's spinning elbow attempt was countered with another left hook. He went down to the mat wincing in pain with what appeared to be a probable facial injury due to a punch. The referee stepped in to stop the fight after a few follow-up strikes from Choi.

It marked the first win of Choi's professional MMA career since July 2016 when he defeated Thiago Tavares to cap the three-fight finish streak that made him an instant sensation in the UFC.

In the main card opening bout, undefeated Hyder Amil fought a streaking Lee Jeong Yeong. There was no feeling out process as Amil met Yeong in the center of the cage and started trading punches in close range. 'Hurricane' cracked Yeong's chin with several shots that landed clean.

The referee stepped in to save the South Korean fighter, who was still standing but had no answer to the barrage of punches. With the win, Amil extended his undefeated record to 10-0. The 34-year-old landed 42 significant strikes in the fight that lasted a total of 65 seconds.

UFC Vegas 94 prelims results: Cody Gibson finishes Brian Kelleher in the headlining bout

In the preliminary card headlining bout, veteran fighter Brian Kelleher squared off with Cody Gibson in the bantamweight division.

Gibson, who appeared to be the bigger fighter, hurt Kelleher with an elbow along the cage. After a failed guillotine attempt, Kelleher found himself under Gibson, who forced him to tap to an arm-triangle choke from half-guard. The win snapped Gibson's two-fight skid.

Elsewhere, Miranda Maverick, Trey Ogden, and Luana Carolina cruised to comfortable unanimous decision victories against Dione Barboza, Loik Radzhabov, and Lucie Pudilova, respectively.

Kamaru Usman's brother, Mohammed Usman, fought Thomas Petersen in the only heavyweight bout on the card. Coming off a unanimous decision loss against Mick Parkin, Usman hoped to bounce back with a win over the DWCS stand-out.

However, Petersen outpointed him with effective striking and well-timed takedowns that helped steal the rounds on the scorecards en route to a unanimous decision win.
