UFC Vegas 95 bonuses and aftermath: Serghei Spivac rewarded for revenge win, two others bag $50K, weight miss drama sparks frustration
Heavyweight fighter Serghei Spivac emerged as the biggest winner of the UFC Vegas 95 card. The event was held on Aug. 10 and the UFC Apex facility in Enterprise, Nevada served as the venue.
In the main event, Spivac locked horns against Marcin Tybura. The fight was a rematch of their first encounter in February 2020. Tybura had won that fight via unanimous decision.
In the rematch, 'Polar Bear' proved himself to be the better fighter as he submitted Tybura with an armbar in the opening minutes of the fight. With the victory, Spivac now has the second most finishes (6) in the UFC heavyweight division since 2019.
Spivac's performance also marked the first armbar submission victory in the promotion's heavyweight division since Fabricio Werdum's victory over Alexander Gustafsson in July 2020.
'Polar Bear's' performance at UFC Vegas 95 also earned him a bonus check of $50,000.
Youssef Zalal and Toshiomi Kazama also scored submission victories in their respective bouts at the event. They were named among the winners of the UFC Performance of the Night bonus and took home an additional sum of $50,000 each.
Several MMA fans were left unimpressed with the fight card due to various reasons. In the lead-up, three fighters missed weight and their bouts had to be changed to catchweight.
Additionally, the fight card had just 10 bouts and only three of those encounters ended in a finish.
Yana Santos scored a unanimous decision victory over Chelsea Chandler, who was one of the fighters who came in overweight.
In her post-fight interview, Santos slammed Chandler for missing weight for their bout:
"I felt it was so unfair... I never miss weight and always do my job to be there and she came just fat, missing five pounds. That means you didn't even try... It felt so disrespectful."
