UFC Vegas 99: Anthony Hernandez vs. Michel Pereira: Full Results
UFC Vegas 99 concluded the organization's two-event stint at the Apex facility after UFC 307, setting the stage for their upcoming trip to Abu Dhabi for UFC 308.
In the main event, Anthony Hernandez and Michel Pereira squared off in a highly anticipated middleweight bout. Hernandez entered with a five-fight winning streak, having submitted Roman Kopylov at UFC 298. Pereira, on the other hand, entered the fight riding an impressive eight-fight win streak.
Both fighters were looking to make a statement, with Hernandez shaking off the inconsistency from his early UFC career, and Pereira toning down his unpredictable style to focus on delivering dominant performances.
Hernandez dominated the fight after overcoming some adversity in the first round to win the contest by TKO in the fifth round. Despite an early front kick to the body that momentarily stunned him, Hernandez effectively controlled the bout with relentless pressure and takedowns.
He transitioned smoothly to top control multiple times, steadily wearing down Pereira and threatening with submission attempts. The fifth round saw Hernandez open a cut on Pereira before referee Herb Dean halted the contest at the 2:22 mark. This victory improved Hernandez’s record to 13-2, while Pereira fell to 31-12.
In the bantamweight co-main event, Rob Font ended a two-fight skid with a unanimous decision victory over Kyler Phillips. The fight opened with Phillips securing a takedown, controlling Font on the ground until the veteran broke free in the final minute of the first round. In the second round, Font landed significant strikes and defended against takedowns, inflicting damage around Phillips’ eye. The third round saw Font dominating the stand-up exchanges to seal a spectacular victory.
