UFC veteran agrees with Joe Rogan, asserts Olympics' "greatest trick" is convincing athletes believe "they should not be paid"
A UFC veteran recently agreed with Joe Rogan's beliefs about Olympic athletes being paid. He supported his claims and noted that the athletes should consider expressing their opinions and pushing for change.
The Joe Rogan Experience (JRE) host recently voiced his displeasure for the Olympic games and went as far as labeling the once-every-four-years event as a scam. Despite the IOC not paying the athletes, some nations do offer incentive plans for athletes who win medals. Rogan shed light on the astronomical revenue from broadcasting rights as well as advertising that is kept by the IOC rather than allocating a percentage to the athletes.
UFC veteran Chael Sonnen recently uploaded a video to his YouTube channel and weighed in on the JRE host's assessment. 'The American Gangster' mentioned that he agreed with Rogan's comments and asserted that the IOC have taken advantage of the athletes. He said:
"To Joe Rogan's point, [Olympics are] certainly not equitable...There is not a lot of other things where you could get people on TV, make them your show, and not compensate them. So, it's a rather fascinating position but the greatest trick that the Olympic committee ever did is convincing the athletes they should not be paid. They got them to accept not being paid. And once they did, it was easy for the scam." [2:41- 3:33]

Why does Joe Rogan believe the Olympics are a scam?
Joe Rogan didn't hold back with his assessment of the Olympics as he explained why he considers it to be a scam.
During a recent JRE MMA Show, the UFC commentator shed light on how the events are structured and the athletes not receiving any of the profit that's being generated. He said:
"You have the best athletes in the world participating in their disciplines, that's happening. And then on top of that, you have enormous amounts of money being made and none of it's going to the athletes. It's a giant scam." [0:11 - 0:26]
