Undefeated South African UFC fighter mocks Kamaru Usman for his comments on Dricus Du Plessis

South African UFC fighter Cameron Saaiman has mocked former welterweight champion Kamaru Usman for his comments regarding African fighters.

Usman recently responded to Dricus Du Plessis over his "I'm the African fighter in the UFC" remarks.

Cameron Saaiman, an unbeaten bantamweight contender, turned to Twitter to poke fun at Usman in response to 'The Nigerian Nightmare's' recent comments about Du Plessis:

"Didn’t know Nebraska was in Africa Marty."

In the lead-up to his appearance at UFC 285, Dricus Du Plessis, a South African fighter, took a dig at former champions Kamaru Usman and Israel Adesanya, both of whom were born in Nigeria but raised in other parts of the world. Du Plessis asserted that since he was born, raised, and continues to live in Africa, he would be the first true African UFC champion if he were to capture the title.

Kamaru Usman addresses recent assertions made by Dricus Du Plessis

Former welterweight champion Kamaru Usman has addressed recent comments made by middleweight fighter Dricus Du Plessis. Du Plessis claimed that he and his teammate Cameron Saaiman were the only true African UFC fighters, due to their being born, raised, and still living on the continent. Usman has lived in the United States since his family immigrated when he was eight years old.

'The Nigerian Nightmare' is set to make his return to the octagon in the main event of UFC 286 in London. He will challenge welterweight champion Leon Edwards in a title rematch. During the media day leading up to the event, Usman objected to Dricus Du Plessis' remarks, which he admitted were initially off-putting:

"The one thing he's failing to realize is just because I go to China, and my parents are in China, and I'm raised in China, that doesn't make me more Chinese than people from China. Just because you went over to South Africa and you were raised there, that doesn't make you African. Try to be a little bit more careful with what you say, and how you say it."
