Underdog Jacob Smith sticking to his strengths ahead of rematch with Rodtang: "I probably kick harder"
Jacob Smith is confident that he can show the adjustments that he has made in recent years to earn revenge over a former opponent. The Brit was thrown right in at the deep end on his ONE Championship debut that took place back in May of 2022.
At ONE 157, he faced off with Thai superstar Rodtang Jitmuangnon and was unable to pull off the shock upset on that occasion.
The two men are set to meet again at ONE 169 on November 8 where Smith will get his chance to challenge for the ONE flyweight Muay Thai world championship.
He has already admitted that he was slightly overwhelmed by the whole situation the first time that he faced off with 'The Iron Man'.
Having been in there with him already, he now believes that he holds certain advantages over him that he can use in the rematch.
Smith told Sportskeeda MMA in an exclusive interview all about where he is different from the world champion:
"I probably kick harder I would say and I'm probably a little bigger than him. No, I can't do a list of what his strengths and weaknesses are. You're just going to have to wait and see."
Jacob Smith will need to rely on these strategies to get the win
Relying on his toughness isn't something that Jacob Smith is afraid to do in the slightest.
However, when you're up against a destructive force and an immovable object like Rodtang, it's always going to be a difficult path to victory.
Smith will need to be at the very peak of his powers if he's going to leave Bangkok with the flyweight gold wrapped around his waist.
He's had a lot of time to think about what he would do differently in a rematch so you can guarantee that he will be ready come fight night.
ONE 169: Malykhin vs. Reug Reug will now take place at Lumpinee Stadium on November 8 after being moved from the State Farm Arena in Atlanta due to partner obligations.
