Uriah Hall describes mindset before Chris Weidman suffered gruesome injury: "If I kick him hard enough, I'll break his leg"

Uriah Hall recently opened up about his infamous rematch against Chris Weidman at UFC 261. The bout is remembered for the former middleweight champion suffering a broken leg after landing a leg kick in the opening moments, which resulted in the fight immediately being stopped.

The gruesome injury transpired in the opening moments of the fight and left the commentators and fans in attendance stunned. The former middleweight champion suffered a broken leg that required surgery and a lengthy rehab that kept him sidelined for two years.

During his appearance on Quinton 'Rampage' Jackson's JAXXON PODCAST, the former TUF competitor described his mindset prior to the start of the bout. Hall mentioned that Weidman was much leaner than he remembered, which made him consider leg kicks and even unintentionally telegraphing what ended up transpiring. He said:

"I was like, 'You know what? I'm pretty sure if I kick him hard enough, I'll break his leg'. I remember saying that and I know he's heavy handed....he's probably gonna take me down...Just keep an eye out for that kick...I knew he was gonna kick and I was bracing the counter and by the time before I counter, he should just wrap around my leg."

When did Uriah Hall and Chris Weidman's first encounter take place?

Uriah Hall and Chris Weidman were no strangers to each other when they fought as they had previously competed against each other prior to their UFC careers in September 2010.

At the time, both competitors were unbeaten and 'Primetime' was defending Ring of Combat middleweight championship against the American. Weidman earned a first-round TKO to capture the championship and improve his MMA record to 3-0.

During the aforementioned clip, Hall mentioned that he was too concerned with Weidman's wrestling and believes that it cost him the fight. He said:

"My hands were down cause I was looking for it [Weidman's takedowns], forgetting my attributes and he clipped me. I was knocked out, he was on top of me, and the fight would end"
