Valentina Shevchenko impresses MMA pros but disappoints fans with "boring" title reclamation against Alexa Grasso at Noche UFC
UFC star Valentina Shevchenko reclaimed her flyweight throne with a one-sided victory on Sept. 14. 'Bullet' squared off against Alexa Grasso in a trilogy bout at Noche UFC 306, which was held at the Sphere in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Their previous two bouts had ended in a Grasso victory and then a majority draw. In the third fight, Shevchenko put her grappling prowess to use and outclassed her opponent for the majority of the five-round bout.
The fight lasted all 25 minutes and 'Bullet' scored a comfortable unanimous decision victory in the end. All three judges scored the bout 50-45 in favor of the 36-year-old.
Several MMA personalities and fans took notice of Shevchenko's victory and went to social media to share their opinions on it.
Former multi-division champion Henry Cejudo praised 'Bullet', labeling her performance as "dominant."
"What a dominant performance by Shevchenko! She reclaimed her throne once again."
Former UFC featherweight queen Cris Cyborg stated that she enjoyed 'Bullet's' performance.
"Valentina Shevchenko, a true martial artist. Pleasure watching that performance."
But not everyone was pleased with Shevchenko's performance. One fan claimed that the fight ruined the entire event for them.
"Damn. she ruined the great night."
Another individual criticized the Kyrgyzstani fighter for not scoring a finish in the fight.
"Yeah cool, Shevchenko won, but forgot how to work for a finish. That's not what fighting is."
Grasso also received backlash for the fight, with one user calling her performance the "worst" from a UFC champion.
"One of the worst performances from a champion I've ever seen. Looked absolutely awful and looked nothing like a champion. Horrible!"
