Vasiliy Lomachenko vs. Gervonta Davis talks turn sour as ‘Loma’ is “not in the mood right now," says his manager

Gervonta Davis could soon be in search for a new opponent after a less-than promising update on talks between him and Vasiliy Lomachenko. The pair are the WBA and IBF lightweight world champions, respectively, and are two of the biggest names in the sport.

Following Davis' recent title defense against Frank Martin, whom 'Tank' defeated via KO in Round 8 to hand 'The Ghost' his first career loss, discussions with Lomachenko resumed.

'Loma' is widely regarded as the best amateur boxer of all time, and combat sports fanatic Joe Rogan even labeled him as arguably the best boxer ever in his prime.

A clash between Davis and the Ukrainian would be a bonafide mega-fight, but it appears that the IBF champion is currently not interested in the potential matchup.

TalkSPORT boxing editor Michael Benson recently took to X to share an update from Lomachenko's manager, which was first reported by boxing journalist Steve Kim.

Benson wrote:

"Vasiliy Lomachenko's manager Egis Klimas has indicated that the Gervonta Davis fight may not happen next: "Loma is not in the mood right now, he doesn't have the motivation at the moment. He's taking off, he wants to spend more time with the family. He doesn't want to do anything until the end of the year. Just money is not what motivates him. You can offer him tens of millions of dollars - if he doesn't have motivation, he's not ready to prepare for the fight."

Shakur Stevenson says the public perceives Gervonta Davis differently to him for one reason

Gervonta Davis and Shakur Stevenson are part of a promising group of boxers that will become the sport's biggest stars over the next five years. The pair are roughly the same age, at 29 and 27 years old, respectively, and both hold lightweight world titles - Stevenson is the current WBC champion.

But according to the younger pugilist, 'Tank' is perceived as the greater fighter by the public only because of his knockout power.

Stevenson was recently interviewed by Cigar Talk, where he explained why, saying:

"People are blessed with different abilities. [Davis] is blessed with a God-given ability that if he cracks you, nine times out of ten you're gonna go down. That's his ability. I'm blessed with God-given eyes. My eyes are amazing. A lot of people don't understand how good my eyes are. I can see really well, [if] punches [are] coming my way I know how to get away from them at any given time."
