Alexander Volkanovski, who is still undefeated in the UFC (12-0) and overall (25-1) has separated himself from the rest of his competitors with his disciplined and incisive approach to dissecting opponents.

Since winning the featherweight title against Max Holloway at UFC 245 in 2019, 'The Great' has successfully defended his throne four times and gained pound-for-pound distinction in the process.

'The Great' is set to face a formidable challenge against the dominant Islam Makhachev, who has won eleven consecutive bouts.

Alexander Volkanovski previews his upcoming fight with Islam Makhachev

Alexander Volkanovski does not take his pound-for-pound number-one status lightly. Rather, the UFC featherweight champion wishes to dispel any doubts about his status on that list.

Newly minted lightweight champion Islam Makhachev was quick to call out Volkanovski after his UFC 280 victory over Charles Oliveira, which placed him at number two on the list of the sport's best competitors.

In October this year, Alexander Volkanovski served as a backup for the battle between Oliveira and Makhachev.

Interestingly, Volkanovski stated that he had prepared more for the Dagestani than for 'do Bronx,' implying that he had anticipated the outcome of the bout.

The Aussie recently released the first episode of his "Double Champ Camp UFC 284" on YouTube and previewed the upcoming clash:

"I've already had a little bit of a camp for Islam that last time [at UFC 280] in Abu Dhabi. No disrespect to Charles [Oliveira] but I felt my style alone is alright. I just obviously focused more on the takedown defense and all that type of stuff. I've already had a short-camp for him."

Speaking about Makhachev's grappling prowess, Volanovski added:

"I've said from the start, I'm very hard to hold down. I've never really had to work on that because I know I'll get back up. I respect him [Makhachev] enough to know that it needs a little bit of work. Let's take it serious. I've never really had to prepare this early in camp. So, I'm just fired up!"
