WATCH: BJJ legend Marcus 'Buchecha' Almeida's magical run of finishes in ONE Championship
Multiple-time IBJJF World Champion Marcus Almeida is one of the few BJJ practitioners who successfully transitioned to the sport of MMA and did it under the world's largest martial arts organization.
ONE Championship has recently highlighted this smooth transition of Almeida by posting all his victories on Instagram that they captioned with:
"100% Finishing Rate 💯 Will Buchecha add another stoppage to the list when he fights Amir Aliakbari at ONE 169? @marcusbuchecha"
In his MMA debut, 'Buchecha' dispatched his fellow Brazilian Anderson Silva with a first-round submission in Sept. 2021 at ONE: Revolution before quickly adding the South Korean knockout artist Kang Ji Won three months later with another opening-round submission win in Dec. 2021 at ONE: Winter Warriors.
The BJJ black belter showed that he is not just a submission specialist because he scored a TKO finish on Australian Simon Carson in their match at ONE 158 in June 2022.
'Buchecha's' latest triumph under the promotion was a first-round dismantling of Belarusian contender Kirill Grishenko, who he submitted in Aug. 2022 at ONE on Prime Video 1.
This four-fight win streak of 'Buchecha' was snapped by Oumar Kane, who handed him a unanimous decision loss in Aug. 2023 at ONE Fight Night 13 to stain his professional record.
Marcus Almeida looks to return to winning ways at ONE 169 against Amir Aliakbari
After being away for over a year of action, the American Top Team and Evolve MMA representative is now making a comeback in MMA action, as he is set to face the Iranian 'Hulk,' Amir Aliakbari, on Nov. 8 at ONE 169.
Buchecha aims to break the four-fight win streak of the AAA team-affiliated athlete, which dates back to Aug. 2022.
This all-important heavyweight MMA clash between two behemoths could determine the next challenger for the division's undisputed king in the foreseeable future.
