The year also witnessed some inspiring performances that culminated in great submissions.
MMA fans can watch a compilation of all the submission victories in 2022 in a video that was recently uploaded to Twitter by the handle MMA Fire 2.0. The submission tally began with heavyweight contender Jake Collier sinking a rear-naked choke on Chase Sherman for a first-round submission victory.
In April this year, former strawweight champion Jessica Andrade made a successful comeback at 115 pounds with a first-round submission victory against Amanda Lemos. It was the first standing arm-triangle submission victory in the promotion's history. The UFC acknowledged the accomplishment by naming Andrade the winner of the 2022 Half-Year submission award.
Islam Makhachev stunned the world at UFC 280 in October when he submitted Charles Oliveira, the UFC record holder for most submission victories (16), in the second round of their fight for the vacant lightweight crown. At 3:16 of the second round, the Dagestani finished the fight with an arm-triangle choke.
Said Nurmagomedov submitted Saidyokub Kakhramonov with a guillotine choke to earn the final submission victory of the 2022 calendar year.

Which UFC fighter won the 2022 World MMA Award for best submission?
The Fighters Only World Mixed Martial Arts Awards 2022 was an industry event for the sport of MMA and recognizes the accomplishments and performances of athletes who delivered outstanding performances from July 2021 to June 2022. The awards were presented at the World MMA Fighters Only Awards and the event was held at SAHARA Hotel, Las Vegas, on December 8, 2022.
Former lightweight champion Charles Oliveira, who bagged two submission victories in the stipulated window to be eligible for the award, won the 'Submission of the Year' category for his victory over Dustin Poirier.
Oliveira captured the vacant throne earlier that year in May 2021, with a TKO victory over Michael Chandler. Seven months later, 'do Bronx' made the first successful defense of the title with a rear-naked choke victory over 'The Diamond.'
