Watch: Former UFC champion proudly shows off catch while fishing with Tai Tuivasa in Australia
The UFC is set to put forth one of its biggest events of the 2023 calendar year in Australia this month. The world’s premier MMA promotion has traveled Down Under for the UFC 284 event, which will transpire at the RAC Arena in Perth, Australia, on February 12th.
The event will be headlined by a super-fight that’ll witness lightweight champion Islam Makhachev defend his title against featherweight champion Alexander Volkanovski. Speaking of which, Charles Oliveira – the fighter whom Makhachev defeated to win the title – is currently in Australia and is expected to attend the event.
Former UFC lightweight champion Charles Oliveira is seemingly enjoying his time in Australia. The Brazilian MMA stalwart went fishing with fellow UFC fighters, namely heavyweight Tai Tuivasa and light heavyweight Carlos Ulberg. As seen in a video that’s making the rounds online, Oliveira proudly showed off a fish he caught, with Tuivasa cheering.
Watch the video featuring Oliveira in the tweet below:
Charles Oliveira’s most recent fight was a second-round submission loss against Islam Makhachev in October 2022. Meanwhile, Tai Tuivasa is coming off a first-round KO loss against Sergei Pavlovich in December 2022. Neither Oliveira nor Tuivasa's respective next opponents and comeback dates have yet been officially announced.
Daniel Cormier advises Charles Oliveira to insult Conor McGregor to secure a fight with the UFC icon
MMA legend Daniel Cormier recently suggested that talking trash about UFC megastar McGregor could help ‘Do Bronx’ to secure a lucrative payday against him. On the 3 Rounds with Daniel Cormier podcast, ‘DC’ alluded to the fact that Conor McGregor previously called Charles Oliveira out when the latter was the lightweight champion.
Cormier added, however, that McGregor won’t want to fight Oliveira now as he doesn’t hold the belt anymore and isn’t a big-name star. Regardless, he explained that Oliveira could still procure a potential fight against the former featherweight and lightweight champion. Advising Oliveira to get personal and nasty with his insults against McGregor, ‘DC’ stated:
"If he really does want an opportunity, I think Oliveira needs to talk more about McGregor and be more insulting about McGregor and talk about all the issues that McGregor has. From the issue with the bus, from the issue to the fight with the man in the pub to the issue that he's going through now."
Watch Cormier’s assessment below:
Daniel Cormier’s advice could help Charles Oliveira bag a ‘money fight’ against Conor McGregor down the line. Nevertheless, McGregor is currently set to coach TUF 31 against Michael Chandler and fight him later this year. Ergo, it’s likely that a possible Oliveira-McGregor fight won’t materialize anytime soon, and ‘Do Bronx’ could end up fighting someone else in the meantime.
