WATCH: Japanese superstar Takeru Segawa sharpens his kicks ahead of possible return to action after injury
ONE Championship is loaded with talent, and one name that fans cannot wait to see back in action is Takeru Segawa. The Japanese kickboxing megastar challenged ONE flyweight kickboxing world champion Superlek Kiatmoo9 in his promotional debut this past January at ONE 165.
Though 'The Natural Born Crusher' tried his best to dethrone the Thai star, 'The Kicking Machine' deciding to take out his lead leg throughout the contest allowed Superlek to win via unanimous decision and defend his spot atop the mountain.
Takeru suffered a great deal of damage to his left thigh in that bout, but he now appears to be back in fighting shape as he has been showcasing a renewed fire within him via social media.
Check out Takeru's recent pad session below as shared by ONE on Instagram:
With a résumé that includes multiple world championships and awards in his 47-fight career, fans can expect nothing but the best from the 32-year-old star when he steps back inside the circle.
Takeru gets high praise from Superlek for all-out aggression at ONE 165
Fighting Superlek in his promotional debut was no easy task for Takeru. The Thai megastar was on an eight-fight winning streak at the time and was coming off a megafight for the ages against Rodtang Jitmuangnon.
Superlek broke down Takeru's game plan for their titanic clash in a video shared by ONE on Instagram, stating:
"It looks like it burns. I was very surprised he was still standing at the end. Because every kick I threw, he didn't defend any of them. Some may be wondering, 'Why was Takeru not defending himself?' But don't forget, Takeru's lead leg is his left leg. He has to step in to punch me. He can't protect himself whenever he steps in. He sacrificed his defense to attack me."
