WATCH: Teenage phenom Johan Ghazali learns the difficult lesson of messing with his mother in lighthearted training video
ONE Muay Thai phenom Johan Ghazali lit up the combat sports world with his unthinkable rise to stardom in 2023, though there is still one opponent that 'Jojo' just cannot defeat.
In a video shared by ONE on Instagram, the 17-year-old Malaysian-American was training with his mother and former Muay Thai fighter Jennana Johnson. He paid the price for playing around...
Ghazali and his mother have quite the bond, as he has previously credited her for playing a major role in getting him to commit to Muay Thai seriously as his career.
After putting together a five-fight winning streak with four finishes to his name to kickstart his ONE career, it turns out his mother was correct.
Though the Rentap Muaythai Gym product suffered his first loss at the hands of longtime vet Nguyen Tran Duy Nhat at ONE 167 last month, Ghazali has the potential to ultimately become an all-time great in the sport.
Johan Ghazali eyeing knockout victory in return fight
Suffering a loss can sting for someone as young as Johan Ghazali, but he will get his chance to return to the win column at ONE 168: Denver on September 6. There, he takes on Josue Cruz in a flyweight Muay Thai contest inside the Ball Arena.
Ghazali has no plans of lingering on his loss to Nguyen, and finishing off Cruz via knockout is the only thing on his mind right now.
He said as much in an interview with Astro Awani:
"I hope I do my best. I hope, at least, like all of my fights, I will get a KO. For this fight, I hope to get one in the second round."
