We asked AI to predict the winner for UFC 305: Dricus du Plessis vs. Israel Adesanya (And it gave a perfect reply)
Dricus du Plessis is all set to defend the middleweight title against former two-time champion Israel Adesanya, at UFC 305 this weekend at the RAC Arean in Perth. We asked Google Gemini, an AI chatbot, how the fight would unfold and its predictions were surprisingly credible.
While he is one of the top stars in the UFC, recent years haven't been kind to Adesanya. 'The Last Stylebender' is 3-2 in his last five. The Nigerian-born-Kiwi was thoroughly outclassed by Sean Strickland at UFC 293 last year, resulting in him contemplating a long layoff.
However, the reigning champion has now forced him back into the mix. Du Plessis is undefeated in the UFC and edged out 'Tarzan' via split decision at UFC 297 in January to claim the title.
While many might see the 30-year-old's wins against Strickland and take it as a telling sign of his eventual triumph against Adesanya, that's not how MMA math works.
Gemini seems to believe there are three possible scenarios at UFC 305. It might either be a close fight, a knockout win for du Plessis, or a decision win for 'The Last Stylebender'.
According to the AI's analysis, du Plessis' brawler style mixes well with his high endurance and durability. Couple that with his underrated ground game, the South African could pressure Adesanya into making mistakes and make him vulnerable for an early finish.
On the other hand, the former champion's unparalleled striking skills, distance control, and fight IQ could negate 'Stillknocks's' relentless pressure. This way he could craftily outpoint his opponent to win on the judges' scorecards.
However, Gemini's analysis states that 'The Last Stylebender' might find it hard to keep du Plessis off of him for five straight rounds.
MMA pros predict UFC 305 fight between Dricus du Plessis and Israel Adesanya
It looks like most of the matchmakers and fighters believe Israel Adesanya will defeat Dricus du Plessis at UFC 305. During a recent interview with James Lynch, heavyweight contender Curtis Blaydes opined that if the fight transpires mostly on the feet, Adesanya will make light work of his opponent.
Lightweight contender Alex Reyes believes Adesanya is the more well-rounded fighter of the two and will get the better of his opponent.

However, Robert Whittaker, who has fought both men, sees Du Plessis winning the fight if he fights 'The Last Stylebender' at the same fast pace he fought Sean Strickland.
