“We just have to wait and see” - Jonathan Haggerty weighs in on potential matchups with Superlek, Nico Carrillo
Jonathan Haggerty isn't entirely sure what's next, but a potential clash with Scottish warrior Nico Carrillo is definitely on the cards.
'The General' suffered a brutal first-round knockout loss against Superlek Kiatmoo9 in his return to the Circle at ONE 168: Denver last month.
Haggerty surrendered the ONE bantamweight Muay Thai world championship, but the British fan favorite believes there are still plenty of big fights to be had—including a clash with 'The King of the North.'
"I’ve seen a lot of posts of people saying Superlek and Nico, and now a lot of people are saying Nico and Haggy still," Haggerty said during a recent interview on the Sky Sports MMA Club podcast. "So we just have to wait and see how that pans out."
Carrillo currently sits as the second-ranked contender in the bantamweight Muay Thai division, having scored highlight-reel knockouts against former ONE world champion Nong-O Hama and Thai superstar Saemapetch Fairtex in his last two outings.
Overall, Carrillo is 4-0 in ONE Championship with 27 career victories.
Is Superlek vs. Rodtang 2 next following the former's big win against Jonathan Haggerty?
With Superlek's win in The Mile High City, he is now a two-sport king, carrying both the ONE bantamweight Muay Thai and the ONE flyweight kickboxing world championship. That gives him a lot of options for his next outing, but one fight everyone has been clamoring for is a rematch with 'The Iron Man.'
In September 2023, 'The Kicking Machine' went toe-to-toe with Rodtang Jitmuangnon in one of the biggest and most exciting Muay Thai fights in the history of the sport.
Superlek came out on top via unanimous decision, though the ruling was heavily scrutinized by fight fans, many believing Rodtang had done enough to come out on top.
Is Superlek vs. Rodtang 2 the fight to make following the former's quickfire KO against Jonathan Haggerty last month?
