“We move forward, and we will learn from it” - Jonathan Haggerty says devastating loss to Superlek will make him a better fighter

Reigning ONE bantamweight kickboxing world champion and former bantamweight Muay Thai titleholder 'The General' Jonathan Haggerty of the United Kingdom isn't stressing, despite his second loss to archrival 'The Kicking Machine' Superlek Kiatmoo9.

Haggerty succumbed to the Thai superstar in the main event of ONE 168: Denver last September, which took place in front of a capacity crowd at the Ball Arena. 'The General' ran into a dynamite counter elbow from 'The Kicking Machine', which ended their five-round fight in just 49 seconds.

Speaking to the Sky Sports MMA Club podcast in a recent guest appearance, Haggerty addressed the defeat, and believes he will emerge a better fighter because of it.

'The General' said:

"It was just devastating. But it is what it is. We move forward, and we will learn from it, for sure. I feel like I was a little bit too aggressive."

Haggerty has shown impressive resilience in the past, bouncing back from disappointing setbacks to climb back up to the top of the mountain. Needless to say, fans expect 'The General' to rise again, no matter how devastating the loss to Superlek is.

Jonathan Haggerty eyes rematch against ageing legend: "There’s obviously Nong-O again"

'The General' Jonathan Haggerty is on the comeback trail, following a harrowing 49-second knockout loss to ONE flyweight kickboxing king 'The Kicking Machine' Superlek Kiatmoo9 at ONE 168: Denver last month.

If it were up to the 27-year-old Team Underground product, he would book an immediate rematch with Superlek to try to reclaim his Muay Thai gold. But if that's not available, Haggerty suggests a former foe for his next fight.

He said:

"If I wasn’t going to get the number one or the title shot next, there’s obviously Nong-O again."

Haggerty defeated Nong-O Hama in April 2023 to take the ONE bantamweight Muay Thai world title. However, many fans felt it was a lucky win, and Haggerty wants to prove them wrong by beating Nong-O again, once and for all.
