“We will be ready” - Mikey Musumeci reunites with Brandon Moreno in fight camp for world title challenge against Kade Ruotolo
Mikey Musumeci once again brought out the big guns to start another fight camp.
The reigning ONE flyweight submission grappling world champion is back in Las Vegas and linked up with former UFC flyweight world champion Brandon Moreno at Faito Tamashii Combat Club.
Musumeci will challenge fellow Brazilian jiu-jitsu superstar Kade Ruotolo for the ONE lightweight submission grappling world title in a massive super fight at ONE 168: Denver.
In an Instagram Story, Mikey Musumeci revealed he started his fight camp for his champion-versus-champion showdown against Ruotolo on September 6 at the Ball Arena in Colorado.
He wrote:
"Day 2 of my camp for my match in September!! WE WILL BE READY DOUBT ME PLZ."
Musumeci and Moreno don't share the same stable, but they've been known to train together, and have done so multiple times in the past couple of years.
Moreno helped Musumeci as recently as the latter's previous fight at ONE 167 this past weekend.
'Darth Rigatoni' typically trains under BJJ legend Rubens 'Cobrinha' Charles in Los Angeles, California but he would complement his training with sessions at Faito Tamashii Combat Club with Moreno.
Those long sessions ultimately helped Musumeci avenge his 2021 defeat to Gabriel Sousa when he submitted the Brazilian star with a nasty calf slicer in their bantamweight submission grappling match at ONE 167 in Bangkok.
Mikey Musumeci expects a high-octane matchup against Kade Ruotolo in Denver
Mikey Musumeci always aims to bring the best and most exciting matches possible, and he believes his upcoming world title defense against Kade Ruotolo will capture the Colorado crowd.
In his post-fight interview with Mitch Chilson at ONE 167, Musumeci said his and Ruotolo's collective energy would bounce off each other especially how they've respected each other throughout their careers.
He said:
"I always ask to train with him, so why not just do it in front of a lot of people, it will be really exciting, you know? But also the energy we have with each other, so respectful."
ONE 168: Denver is ONE Championship's second live on-site event in the United States. Tickets are available at Ticketmaster.
