What is Alex Pereira's walk-around weight? Learn about 'Poatan's' massive weight cut

'Alex Pereira walk-around weight' is an understandable Google search considering the former 185-pound champion's enormous frame for that weight class.

Pereira has been featured in several social media photos over the years where his frame showed him towering over many sizable UFC light heavyweights and even heavyweights.

Men like Dominick Reyes and mentor and former UFC light heavyweight champion Glover Teixeira appear smaller than Pereira in photos that always gain a lot of circulation on social media.

During one of his podcast episodes in 2022, Joe Rogan was quoted as describing Alex Pereira's massive weight-cutting abilities as "sanctioned cheating." So let's check out how much Alex Pereira actually weighs.

What is Alex Pereira's walk-around weight?

Alex Pereira has been known to cut massive amounts of weight during his middleweight tenure. There have been instances where the Brazilian has gained almost 30 pounds in the 24 hours after weighing in at the middleweight limit of 185 pounds.

Reports have shown that Pereira's walk-around weight out of camp is north of 230 pounds. For a reference point, former UFC middleweight champion Israel Adesanya's walk-around weight is in the range of 203-205 pounds.

The UFC run of Alex Pereira after moving up in weight

When Israel Adesanya viciously knocked out Alex Pereira to reclaim the middleweight title at UFC 287, the MMA community was surprised to see there was no talk of a mega trilogy fight. Instead, it became evident that 'Poatan' would probably move up in weight.

Rumors suggested that Pereira's struggle to make weight was the biggest reason why the trilogy fight was never even mentioned. The Brazilian later announced that he would fight in the 205-pound division. While the approximately 25-pound weight could still be a task, it could be a little easier than the 45-pound weight cut to middleweight.

Pereira showed promise in his light heavyweight debut when he bested Jan Blachowicz via split decision in the UFC 291 co-main event.

The win over the former divisional kingpin informed Pereira's rapid rise to a title shot in a new UFC weight category. He defeated former 205-pound champion Jiri Prochazka in the UFC 295 main event to capture the light heavyweight title.

The win cemented Pereira's name among the handful of fighters who won two divisional titles in the UFC. The fact that he achieved this massive feat in two years of making his UFC debut made it even more remarkable.

'Poatan' will attempt the first defense of his 205-pound title against former champion Jamahal Hill at the landmark UFC 300 pay-per-view event on April 13. If he defeats Hill, it will be Pereira's win over the fifth current and former champion in UFC history.
