What does Daniel Cormier truly think of Jon Jones? The great UFC rivalry unraveled in honest essay
The rivalry between Jon Jones and Daniel Cormier was legendary, and some might even call it the fiercest feud in UFC history. Despite that, 'DC' recently put out an emotionally honest reflection of their history with each other and recognized his former rival as one of the greatest MMA fighters of all time.
The two men faced off twice as light heavyweights in their careers, with 'Bones' winning their first contest and having his second victory over Cormier overturned into a no-contest due to a steroid violation. The build-up to their bouts was defined by personal insults, vile tirades, and even death threats. Jones and Cormier infamously brawled during a face-off before their first meeting in 2015.
Nevertheless, it seems Daniel Cormier can overlook all of that to see what a great fighter Jon Jones is.
Ahead of Jones' heavyweight debut and title fight against Ciryl Gane at UFC 285, the former two-division champion recently tweeted out a video essay to outline why he couldn't deny Jones' accomplishments:
"Even I can't deny the accomplishments that make him one of the all-time greats in MMA... You could love him or you could hate him, it's impossible to try and discredit what Jones has done in the UFC..."
Jon Jones next fight: 'Bones' quashes beef with Daniel Cormier ahead of UFC 285
Ahead of his title fight at UFC 285, Jon Jones has looked back on his rivalry with Daniel Cormier, and it appears he's willing to bury the hatchet once and for all.
'Bones' is set to make his long-awaited return to the UFC this weekend after a hiatus of over three years. The former light heavyweight champion will go up against No.1-ranked heavyweight contender Ciryl Gane for the vacant heavyweight title. UFC 285 will go down at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas on March 4.
Jon Jones and Daniel Cormier fought each other twice in the octagon but their fight didn't stop there. Often throwing insults and personal jabs at each other, they defined the term 'bitter rivalry.' However, 'Bones' wants to put all of that behind him.
In a recent interview with RMC Sport, Jones iterated his intentions to make peace with Cormier:
"I can never say that I actually ever hated 'DC', I just really wanted to beat him. After beating him, there's a respect you just naturally have for the guy... When the fight is over, the beef is over...I do forgive Daniel Cormier for anything negative he's ever said about me and I'd hope he forgives me as well."
