What is Dirty Boxing Championship? Exploring the rules and regulations of Mike Perry's new combat sports promotion

Mike Perry is venturing into the fight promotion space with Dirty Boxing Championship, a new promotion sporting a hybrid rule set that combines aspects of other popular combat sports, including MMA and Muay Thai.

Following the weigh-ins for his upcoming boxing clash against Jake Paul on Saturday evening, 'Platinum' announced the launch of his new promotion alongside Karate Combat's Adam Kovac and Kanpai Media's Josh McLean.

During the media event, Perry donned what seemed to be a five-ounce glove and came out over to the stage to do a live demonstration of Dirty Boxing's rule set, following which Kovah re-explained them.

Watch Mike Perry's demonstration below:

'Platinum's' new promotion will use smaller five-ounce gloves and will allow ground and pound in addition to elbows and even open palm strikes. However, fighters won't be allowed to grapple or throw kicks.

Per Kovach, the decision to implement ground and pound was taken to eliminate the necessity of an eight-count rule.

According to Dirty Boxing Championship's website, the bouts for the sport will be conducted in an 18-foot vintage boxing ring conducive for close-quarters exchanges.

The new sport will feature three three-minute rounds for regular fights with an additional two rounds for championship bouts. The promotion has also promised to maintain a firefighter pay.

Ariel Helwani has reported that the promotion is hoping to do its first event in September. However, they have yet to land a broadcast deal. 'Platinum' has also stated that he would be available to fight for the Dirty Boxing Championship if the need arises.

Mike Perry claims sparring footage "leak" was the hook for Dirty Boxing Championship launch

Mike Perry uncharacteristically released his sparring footage ahead of his boxing clash with Jake Paul this weekend at the Amalie Arena in Tampa, Florida. However, it seems there was a greater purpose for the leak.

In a promotional video for Dirty Boxing Championship posted on Instagram, the former UFC star has claimed the footage leak was a hook for his newly announced combat sports venture:

"Last week I had posted my sparring footage on social media. The footage has amassed over two million views on social media in two days. But there is something we didnt tell you, it was all planned. You all thought I was going to leak my sparring footage before the big fight? Platinum got your a**. It's time to get dirty."
