“What's not to watch there?” - Jackie Buntan says her ‘young gun vs respected veteran’ war with Anissa Meksen is must-see TV
Jackie Buntan believes her impending clash with Anissa Meksen will be must-see TV.
Emanating from the iconic Lumpinee Stadium in Bangkok, Thailand, this Friday night, November 8, ONE Championship delivers its most anticipated card of the year—ONE 169—featuring three massive ONE world title matchups.
One of those bouts will feature Boxing Works sensation Jackie Buntan as she looks to claim her first 26 pounds of gold against seven-time titleholder Anissa Meksen. The winner will emerge as the new ONE strawweight kickboxing queen and kickstart a new era in women's combat sports on martial arts' biggest global stage.
Speaking with ONE Championship ahead of her return to the ring, Buntan believes her status as a young gun taking on the wily veteran Meksen will make for one hell of a fight at ONE 169.
"I mean, what's not to watch there? I think I'm a very adaptable fighter, making my transition to kickboxing," Buntan said. "She's been in kickboxing, so, you know what, there's nothing else to sell there for me."
Jackie Buntan and Anissa Meksen aim for their first ONE world championship at ONE 169
This will be Jackie Buntan's second opportunity to bring a ONE world title back home to the United States—the first time coming against former ONE strawweight Muay Thai world champion Smilla Sundell.
Buntan came up short that evening, but she has since bounced back with a trio of impressive wins against Amber Kitchen, Aussie standout Diandra Martin, and most recently, Martine Michieletto.
Meanwhile, Anissa Meksen will look to secure the most prestigious world title of her career—a truly incredible statement, considering 'C18' has already held titles under the GLORY Kickboxing, ISKA, and WBC banners.
Will Meksen add the one title that has eluded her thus far, or will Buntan finally break through and add ONE Championship gold to her resume?
Fans in the United States and Canada can watch ONE 169: Malykhin vs. ‘Reug Reug’ live on Amazon Prime Video on Friday, November 8 in U.S. primetime.
