When Belal Muhammad took a jab at Conor McGregor's weight gain, dismissing his "championship weight" claims
Conor McGregor is infamous for brutal disses, brash rants, and tweet-and-deletes on X (formerly known as Twitter). In 2022, Belal Muhammad reacted to one such McGregor tweet with a befitting reply.
McGregor hasn't been in action since his loss to Dustin Poirier at UFC 264 in 2021, wherein he suffered a gruesome leg injury. Subsequently, he put on quite a bit of weight during his recovery and rehabilitation. In early 2022, the Irishman posted an image of himself weighing in for his 2015 featherweight clash against Denis Siver with the following caption:
"7 years ago. Still here rocking championship weight."
Following his injury at UFC 264, McGregor's weight gain was undeniable, so Muhammad clapped back at the former two-division champion, calling him a liar. The Palestinian-American wrote:
"Quit lying"
Conor McGregor slams Belal Muhammad: "This man hasn't even got a knockdown in UFC history!"
Conor McGregor has lost three out of his last four UFC fights, a far cry from his flawless run at featherweight, where he was seemingly untouchable. 'The Notorious' went 7-0 at 145 pounds before his two-fight series with Nate Diaz and subsequent championship success at lightweight.
Inactivity and injuries have plagued McGregor's career in recent years, but all that was set to end earlier this year when he was slated to face Michael Chandler. However, the Irish superstar sustained an injury a few weeks before the bout, which was then scrapped.
Chandler is now set to face Charles Oliveira at UFC 309 in November. McGregor recently hinted that with his 'TUF' rival now matched up, a welterweight title showdown with Belal Muhammad could be on the table. Belittling the reigning 170-pound champion's ability, he said during a recent live stream:
"Okay Chandler's matched. Belal McGregor UFC Welterweight World Title Fight... I do damage at 170, yea... this man [Belal] hasn't even got a knockdown in UFC history. Not one knockdown, it's embarrassing to be honest."
McGregor is likely set to return to the octagon in early 2025, while Muhammad is looking to defend his title against undefeated Kazakh phenom Shavkat Rakhmonov.
