When did Jon Jones break his toe inside the octagon? Find out why 'Bones' had his foot taped ahead of UFC 285
Whenever Jon Jones enters the UFC octagon, some form of drama is certain to erupt. Whether it is his post-fight drug testing results or his infamous eye pokes, Jones has perhaps stirred more controversy than any other high-level UFC fighter in history.
The former two-time light heavyweight champion defeated Ciryl Gane at UFC 285 via quick first-round submission. In doing so, Jones achieved his long-cherished dream of becoming the UFC heavyweight champion. He also became only the third fighter, after Randy Couture and Daniel Cormier, to hold belts in both the light heavyweight and heavyweight divisions.
However, Jon Jones' comeback at UFC 285 struck its first snag before he even entered the octagon. Cageside officials prevented Jones from entering the cage because he had tape on his left foot and toe. He was forced to cut the tape off before entering the octagon.

In the UFC 285 post-match press conference, Jon Jones explained why he had heavily taped his foot. Jones revealed that the tape on his toe was a precaution due to an injury he sustained years ago in his UFC 159 fight against Chael Sonnen:
“So I broke my toe when I fought Chael Sonnen years ago and ever since then, every day I practice I tape my toe just to ensure that it doesn’t pop out again. The toe is totally fine. But every once in a while, if I pivot on it too hard, it sends the most excruciating pain up my body and I just never want to compete without my toe taped again. So hopefully, the proper people hear me and I don’t run into this issue again. ”

Henry Cejudo reveals the only way Stipe Miocic can beat Jon Jones
In the wake of his UFC 285 victory over Ciryl Gane, Jon Jones issued a challenge to former heavyweight champion Stipe Miocic.
The fight seems to have received a nod from UFC President Dana White. At the UFC 285 post-fight press conference, he confirmed that Jones will defend his heavyweight championship against Miocic next.
Henry Cejudo has first-hand experience training with Jon Jones and is fully aware of his immense potential. While Cejudo acknowledges that Jones has more tools to defeat the former heavyweight champion, Miocic's toughness and endurance will be crucial in the fight. Speaking on his YouTube channel, Cejudo stated:
“I do believe Stipe’s biggest gift is his threshold, his gas tank. How he had the ability to weather the storm with a guy like Daniel Cormier and beat him. You know, was hurt in the beginning, ends up coming back, like Stipe gets better as the fight goes on. Stipe Miocic, the former heavyweight champion of the world, the greatest gift that he has is his threshold and endurance. But against a guy like Jones, you need all that and some. I’m going Jon Jones, no more than three [rounds].”
