When Jon Jones revealed to Joe Rogan his habit of partying a week before every fight

Jon Jones is arguably the greatest mixed martial artist of all time. An opponent never defeated him, his only career loss came as a result of a disqualification.

During a 2016 appearance on episode #880 of The Joe Rogan Experience, Jones shared how he dealt with the pressure of being undefeated. Speaking to host Joe Rogan, Jones stated:

"I had this crazy thing that I would do where I would party one week before every fight and I did it throughout my whole career, and this was stupid, but it was this mental crutch that I had. I literally would - one week before every fight - I would go out and I would get blacked out wasted."

Jones continued:

"My logic was if this guy were to beat me somehow, I can look myself in the mirror and say that, 'Well, I lost because I got hammered the week before the fight,' so there's a safety net. I did it my whole career. Now, I don't. My Ovince Saint Preux fight was the first fight that I did not do that and it was my worst performance."

After establishing himself as the greatest light heavyweight of all time, Jones is preparing for his heavyweight debut.

Joe Rogan discusses potential Jon Jones comeback fight

Jon Jones is reportedly set to make his return to the octagon at UFC 285 after what will be a three-year hiatus from the sport. Jones will reportedly challenge Francis Ngannou for the heavyweight title in his long-awaited debut in the division. Joe Rogan shared his thoughts on the potential matchup.

Francis Ngannou vs Jon Jones targeted for UFC 285 on Mar. 4 in LV. If Ngannou isn’t healthy by then, the UFC will target Jones vs Curtis Blaydes. https://t.co/6ze7VjvxsK

Speaking on episode #1905 of his podcast The Joe Rogan Experience, the UFC commentator stated:

"Francis’s grappling even with a f**ked up leg has gotten a lot better, but has it got to Jon Jones’ level? That’s the big question. Jon took down Daniel Cormier who’s an Olympic wrestler. Jon is a f**king monster when it comes to grappling and he’s also just as tall as anybody in the heavyweight division and he has a phenomenal understanding of distance. He’s the very best at utilizing reach."

While the long-awaited fight between Jones and Ngannou is yet to be announced, it is suspected that they will meet in March 2023 at UFC 285.

Jones will have the opportunity to further build his case for the greatest mixed martial artist of all time by becoming a two-division champ.
