When will Jon Jones and Stipe Miocic fight for the UFC heavyweight title? Timeline disclosed
Jon Jones called out Stipe Miocic after his heavyweight title win over Ciryl Gane at UFC 285. Dana White confirmed that 'Bones' will definitely fight the former champion for his first title defense at heavyweight.
Things have seemingly been set in motion very quickly as Miocic has now disclosed a potential timeline for his return fight against Jones. The Ohio firefighter will reportedly make a bid to reclaim his title at UFC 290 on July 8 during International Fight Week.
Asked how close the deal is to being finalized, Miocic told Ariel Helwani on The MMA Hour:
"I'm ready to go...They told me yes and now he's getting the contract."

Miocic first mentioned the July date while speaking to ESPN in the immediate aftermath of Jon Jones' victory over Ciryl Gane. The former heavyweight champion also claims to be unconcerned about Jones' recent bulk as he is still bigger than the newly crowned champion. The 40-year-old told ESPN's Brett Okamoto:
"It’s a fight, he won, good for him. Hats off, but unfortunately he’s got to fight me in July... We’re all big boys at heavyweight. I actually weigh more than both of them right now. I actually weigh 253 [pounds] so it’s kind of nice.”

Jon Jones believes Stipe Miocic is in the wrong headspace ahead of their fight
Jon Jones shut down all talk of ring rust with a dominant first-round stoppage win over Ciryl Gane on his return to the octagon after a three-year hiatus. 'Bones' now expects Stipe Miocic to give him a G.O.A.T caliber fight in his first title defense.
Jones also advised the former champion to leave his firefighting job to prepare for the fight. 'Bones' further stated that Miocic mentioning his weight while talking about the fight speaks of his current headspace.
The UFC heavyweight king claims he will finish Miocic within three rounds when they meet. Jones said during the UFC 285 post-fight media scrum:
“Stipe is talking about the fact that he’s heavier than me right now — his head is already in the wrong spot. If he thinks weightlifting is going to beat me, he’ll never be younger than he is right now, he’ll never be faster. And I’m going to not only beat Stipe, I’m going to finish him before the championship rounds.”
