Which weight class is Conor McGregor returning at? The Irishman confirms

Conor McGregor's return to the octagon will come later this year against Michael Chandler. The former double champ recently confirmed the weight class that the pair will clash at.

Speaking to Ariel Helwani on The MMA Hour, 'The Notorious' was asked about the weight class for his upcoming bout. He replied with:

"170 [pounds]. I'm 170 next, leave it out."

McGregor was then asked if he believes he will receive a title opportunity with a victory, to which he replied:

"Yeah, I'd like so. I would like that. I may be present for the [UFC 286] card. We're making moves at the Black Forge in London, and I was scheduled to go out there after this. [Gunnar Nelson] is also on the card so it would be good to see him live, and it would be good to watch that welterweight title for sure."

McGregor is targeting a return to the octagon for the first time since breaking his leg at UFC 264. The former double champ is set to appear as a coach on season 31 of The Ultimate Fighter before eventually facing Michael Chandler. While the date and weight class for the bout are yet to be made official, it appears the pair will clash at welterweight.

Conor McGregor's return: 'The Notorious' claims trilogy with Nate Diaz will happen

Conor McGregor and Nate Diaz have one of the most storied rivalries in UFC history. The pair clashed at UFC 196 and UFC 202, splitting victories between the bouts. 'The Notorious' recently shared that the former lightweight title challenger was originally supposed to be the opposing coach on The Ultimate Fighter.

While on The MMA Hour, the former double champ added that he believes a trilogy will happen as there is unfinished business between the two:

"I'll get that again. That trilogy will happen at some stage for sure... We must fight. We're one apiece, it's a great rivalry, and it was a great fight so we've got to square that away for sure... Am I a person not to get the fights made and done and happen? Look at all the fights I've had. When I say it, it happens."

While Diaz is no longer with the UFC, McGregor shared that the Stockton native was in talks to serve as the opposing coach on The Ultimate Fighter. When that fell through, Michael Chandler was named as a replacement. The season will debut on May 30 and will air on ESPN.
