Who promotes Gervonta Davis now? Taking a closer look at the boxing star's current management

Gervonta Davis is included among the world's best boxers today, and for good reason. 'Tank' has held world titles in the super featherweight/junior lightweight (130-pound), lightweight (135-pound), and super lightweight/junior welterweight (140-pound) divisions. A skilled amateur boxer, he ascended to superstar status after transitioning to professional boxing.

Presently, Davis is set to defend his WBA lightweight title against Frank Martin in the headlining match of a PBC on Amazon Prime boxing card. The Davis-Martin showdown will transpire at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada, U.S.A., on June 15, 2024. With the fight fast approaching, today, we take a look at Davis' current management.

Who promotes Gervonta Davis now?

As reported by Bleacher Report (via Mayweather Promotions), Gervonta Davis signed with Al Haymon in 2014, met Floyd Mayweather Jr. in June 2015, and signed with Mayweather Promotions later in 2015. Davis eventually became Mayweather Promotions' top star. Apart from being promoted by Mayweather, he also received invaluable boxing advice from 'Money.'

Mayweather, who retired in Aug. 2017, has established himself as one of the greatest boxers ever, and is viewed by many as being Davis' mentor. Davis' success has also been attributed to PBC head honcho and boxing manager Al Haymon, who has long been the young boxer's advisor.

Heading into his WBA (Regular) lightweight title defense against Rolando Romero in May 2022, Davis announced that it'd be his final fight with Mayweather Promotions. For his part, Floyd Mayweather indicated that he held no ill will toward Davis.

Speaking to Market Mondays, 'Money' implied he was proud of having taken Davis, who came from a similar background as his, and provided him a platform to become a boxing superstar and multimillionaire. The boxing great underlined that he got into boxing promotion to help other pugilists grow, further indicating that he supported Davis' decision to branch out.

Meanwhile, speaking to Brian Custer on the Last Stand Podcast, Davis suggested that there was no bad blood between him and Mayweather Promotions. 'Tank' stated:

"I feel as though it's my career. So, I feel as though I need to be the one to control my career."

Additionally, Custer seemed to suggest that Floyd Mayweather had been respectful of him despite their imminent split. Davis acknowledged the same. He opined that it was simply time for himself to grow up and be his own man. 'Tank' said:

"I feel as though the feelings is mutual. You know what I mean? It's nothing, there's nothing -- I have bad blood with Mayweather Promotions. I'm definitely appreciative that, you know, what they've done for me over the years."

Gervonta Davis and Floyd Mayweather were largely respectful toward one another amid the split in 2022. Davis even hinted that he hasn't closed the door on possibly working with Mayweather Promotions again.

Nevertheless, things apparently changed in 2023. 'Tank' tweeted that he was banned from training at the Mayweather Gym during his fight camp heading into his grudge match against Ryan Garcia.

Davis ultimately defeated Garcia via seventh-round KO in April 2023. Moreover, in 2024, 'Tank' seemingly directed multiple jibes at Mayweather over his allegedly unpaid debts and supposedly being stuck in Dubai. Many believe that 'Money' too has occasionally taken jabs at Davis.

'Tank' is still associated with Al Haymon, who he has retained as his advisor. Gervonta Davis is currently promoted by the Haymon-headed PBC. As noted, Davis (29-0, 27 KOs) is scheduled to defend his WBA lightweight title against Frank Martin (18-0, 12 KOs) next.
