Who will Israel Adesanya fight next? 'The Last Stylebender' called out by top challengers moments after title win
Israel Adesanya reclaimed his middleweight title after knocking out Alex Pereira in the second round via knockout at UFC 287.
As Adesanya settled up his rivalry against Pereira on April 9, multiple UFC fighters took to Twitter to challenge the newly crowned champion to a fight.
Khamzat Chimaev asked UFC president Dana White to set up a fight between him and 'The Last Stylebender'.
Adesanya's former opponent Marvin Vettori also uploaded a tweet congratulating the New Zealander and mentioning the possibility of the two fighting for a third time in the future.
Vettori and Adesanya have shared the octagon twice and 'The Last Stylender' got his hand raised on both occasions.
Another former opponent in the form of Jan Blachowicz also threw his name in the ring for a fight against Adesanya. Blachowicz, who was the first person to defeat Adesanya in an MMA fight, congratulated the 33-year-old and offered him a chance to redeem his loss, but this time with the middleweight title at stake.
Israel Adesanya speaks on possibly fighting Dricus du Plessis
After his spectacular victory at UFC 287, it appears that Israel Adesanya has his eyes set on a new target. During the post-fight press conference, without naming him, Adesanya hinted at a fight against Dricus du Plessis but added that 'Stillknocks' needed to score a few more wins in order to secure a title shot against him.
"I wanna whoop his a** so bad. I wanna do it in South Africa or Nigeria. But he's gotta do work. He's gotta do something. Show me something so I can whoop that a**. I don't wanna give him no clout but If he does work, I pray to God he keeps winning. I will gladly drag his carcass across South Africa," said Israel Adesanya.
You can listen to Adesanya's comments below:
Dricus du Plessis is having an incredible run in the UFC at the moment. 'Sitllknocks' is currently undefeated in the promotion, winning all five of his UFC fights. Overall, the South African fighter is currently riding a nine-fight win streak that includes wins over fighters like Darren Till, Derek Brunson, and Brad Tavares.
With a couple more wins, du Plessis could make his way to a shot at UFC gold.
