Why was Floyd Mayweather's daughter Iyanna 'Yaya' Mayweather arrested?

Floyd Mayweather's daughter Iyanna Mayweather, born on May 20, 2000, notably dated American hip-hop artist NBA YoungBoy (real name Kentrell DeSean Gaulden). Their son, Kentrell Gaulden Jr., was born in January 2021.

Iyanna was accused of attacking one of YoungBoy's partners, Lapattra Lashai Jacobs, in an altercation at the rapper's house in Harris County, Houston, Texas, U.S.A., on Friday, April 3, 2020.

The police later released some bodycam footage, which showed YoungBoy conversing with them and attempting to explain what transpired. The footage shows clothes scattered on the floor of what seems to be a bedroom.

A few officers can be seen collecting evidence from different parts of the house. YoungBoy is observed smoking, lighting up again, and occasionally checking his phone.

As reported by Click 2 Houston in December 2022, Floyd Mayweather's daughter Iyanna was arrested at around 1 a.m. on Saturday, April 4, 2020, at a Houston residence, on a felony charge of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and held in the Harris County Jail. In 2022, she pled guilty to the charge.

The then-35-year-old Jacobs was found to have sustained non-life-threatening injuries (lacerations on her arms). She was transported to a local medical facility, underwent surgery, and was stable.

Per TMZ, the altercation took place in the kitchen area. Moreover, as seen in the video below, the bodycam footage from Iyanna's arrest shows her seated inside a police car and recounting that she'd gotten into an argument with YoungBoy, whom she referred to as her fiance.

Iyanna added that she'd left the house but returned because she'd forgotten her phone. That's when she encountered Jacobs, who she claimed she didn't know and hadn't seen before. She accused Jacobs of verbal and physical attacks and of commanding her to leave the house. Iyanna recalled defending herself with two knives, which at some point hit Jacobs.

As reported by NBC in 2022, per the procured court documents, Iyanna Mayweather was placed in Houston's Harris County Jail, posted a $30k bond, and was released on the same day. Mayweather subsequently appeared in a Houston court and admitted that she "unlawfully, intentionally, and unknowingly" inflicted injury on Jacobs "with a knife."

For her part, Jacobs sued Mayweather, demanding unspecified damages. Meanwhile, NBA YoungBoy had parted ways with Iyanna Mayweather. YoungBoy's attorney distanced his client from Jacobs' lawsuit against Iyanna, clarifying that the rapper wasn't at fault in the case.

Iyanna Mayweather received a six-year probation (probation that could end earlier with good behavior), avoiding prison. YoungBoy himself has had several run-ins with the law. He and 'Yaya' co-parent their son after having separated.

Furthermore, Floyd Mayweather has seemingly been cordial with Iyanna and YoungBoy despite the musical artist's hostile remarks in 2023. 'Money' regularly posts social media content featuring his grandson as well.
