“Why not do Nico vs. Haggerty?” - Liam Harrison suggests blockbuster all-UK super fight for potential ONE event in London
Liam Harrison is all for seeing Jonathan Haggerty and Nico Carrillo battle it out in an all-U.K. super fight at a potential ONE Championship event in London. He believes if the promotion can bring the two together to battle, it should go for it.
'Hitman' made this suggestion in an interview with the South China Morning Post when asked for his thoughts on a possible Haggerty-Carrillo showdown in their backyard of the United Kingdom.
The veteran British striker said:
"I don't know how the logistics will work for that fight. I also don't know if Haggerty can keep that belt against Superlek and Carrillo two times on the bounce. So yeah, I honestly don't know. But I don't see why, if they're coming to England, why not do Nico vs. Haggerty, you know?"
Watch the interview below:
Haggerty is set to defend the ONE bantamweight Muay Thai world title on Sept. 6 at ONE 168 in Denver, Colorado, U.S.A., against flyweight kickboxing king Superlek Kiatmoo9 in a super title fight.
It will be the headlining contest of the event happening at the Ball Arena and airing live and for free in U.S. primetime to North American fans with an active Amazon Prime Video subscription.
Carrillo, meanwhile, is the No. 1 contender in the bantamweight Muay Thai division and has long been clamoring for his world title shot.
For his part, Liam Harrison will also see action at ONE 168, taking on Thai legend Seksan Or Kwanmuang in a catchweight (140 pounds) Muay Thai battle. It will be his first match back after two years because of a knee injury.
Tickets for ONE 168: Denver are available for purchase on Ticketmaster.
Liam Harrison also touts host of exciting young U.K. fighters for potential London show
Apart from established fighters from the United Kingdom like himself, Liam Harrison believes the region also boasts exciting fighters who could make a potential ONE Championship show in London a must-see fare.
The Leeds native shared this in the same interview, rattling off names of up-and-coming fighters to watch out for. Harrison said:
"George Jarvis versus Liam Harrison. That'll be a great domestic fight. That'll be an incredible domestic fight. And then we've got like Amy Pirnie, who knocked the Chinese girl spark out. Get her on there, who else we got.
"We've got some good up-and-comers who are fighting on ONE Friday Fights. Alfie Ponting put on a good show in the other week, he got a bonus. There's Freddie, Jonathan [Haggerty's] brother, we can get him on there as well. We can make an absolutely unbelievable card. Just like Muay Thai, you've got Ellis [Barboza], get him on there. You can make a solid card."
ONE Championship's push for a U.K. show gained headway when the promotion signed a multi-year broadcasting agreement last year with Sky Sports, Europe's leading sports broadcaster.
