“Win against one of the best kickboxers” - Jackie Buntan channeling same energy she had vs. ‘Wondergirl’ in clash with Anissa Meksen
Filipino-American Jackie Buntan vows to be at her best when he takes on veteran Anissa Meksen in their scheduled title clash next month. She said she will taking cue from the performance she had in her ONE Championship where she bucked the odds to get the win.
The 27-year-old Boxing Works standout will shoot for the inaugural ONE women's strawweight kickboxing world titlle against Algerian-French fighter Meksen at ONE 169: Malykhin vs. 'Reug Reug' on Nov. 8 at the Lumpinee Stadium in Bangkok, Thailand.
The showdown is part of the marquee event that will be aired live and for free in U.S. primetime to North American fans with an active Amazon Prime Video subscription.
In an interview with ONE Championship ahead of her upcoming fight, Jackie Buntan talked about the mindset she will be packing come fight night against one of the best strikers in the game, making reference to her promotional debut in February 2021 when she won by decision over Nat 'Wondergirl' Jaroonsak.
She said:
"So, for me, it just reminds me of going into my first fight with 'Wondergirl'. I was a big underdog, odds stacked against me, and that's my motivation -- just go out there and showcase a new style every time I fight.
"Showcase new adaptability, be better than my last performance, and win against one of the best kickboxers."
Heading into ONE 169, Jackie Buntan is coming off a win by decision in her last fight in March, in which she defeated Martine Michieletto of Italy,
Meanwhile, Meksen was most recently in action in December last year, losing to Thai Phetjeeja by decision in their showdown for the ONE interim women's atomweight kickboxing world title.

Jackie Buntan's showdown against Anissa Meksen is one of four world title fights that will go down at ONE 169 on Nov. 8 in Bangkok, Thailand.
It joins the headlining contest, which is the heavyweight MMA world title fight between reigning divisional king and triple world champion Anatoly Malykhin of Russia and on-a-roll challenger Oumar 'Reug Reug' Kane.
Serving as co-main event, meanwhile, is the rematch between ONE flyweight Muay Thai world champion Rodtang Jitmuangnon and British striker Jacob Smith.
Also on tap is the scheduled return to competition for double ONE world champion Christian Lee, who will defend the ONE lightweight MMA belt against Alibeg Rasulov of Turkey.
Apart from the world title fights, ONE 169 also features other topnotch action in MMA, Muay Thai and kickboxing.
