Winless in last two fights, UFC featherweight confirms move to bantamweight division
It appears a UFC featherweight has decided to try his luck in a lower weight class after two consecutive losses in the 145-pound division. Charles Jourdain recently took to social media to announce his move to bantamweight and stated that he's looking forward to stepping into the octagon in November.
Jourdain last faced Jean Silva at UFC 303 in June and lost the fight via second-round knockout. Before that, 'Air' went up against Sean Woodson at UFC 297 in January. After three rounds of action, Woodson got his hand raised via split decision.
Coming off two consecutive losses, it appears Jourdain is hoping to turn his luck around in the 135-pound division. In a recent Instagram post, Jourdain shared some sparring footage and announced his move to bantamweight. He captioned the post:
"I’m going to 135 [pounds], bantamweight... See you in November."
In a post on X, Jourdain reiterated his intentions to compete in a different weight class going forward. Pointing out that he possessed "explosive muscle fiber" as a smaller featherweight, he wrote:
"I will [be] performing at bantamweight. My walk-around weight is 155 [pounds]. In camp, I’m 152 [pounds] max. Last weight cut I had 2 pounds to water cut after the UFC protocol. I’ve always been a small featherweight yet performed well-ish because of my explosive muscle fiber."
When Charles Jourdain explained why UFC may not see an era of undefeated champions like Jon Jones again
In 2022, Charles Jourdain opened up about the importance of fighters being tested by fire before they become UFC champions. Pointing out the depth of talent in every division in the world's premier MMA promotion, Jourdain explained how difficult it was for a champion to remain undefeated.
In an interview with Sportskeeda MMA, 'Air' claimed that the promotion won't have championship reigns like Jon Jones and Jose Aldo due to the number of "f**king monsters" in the promotion. He said:
"Back in the days, we had Jose Aldo, 24, champion. Jon Jones, 22. Now it doesn't happen anymore. You need to bleed. In the era of the new generation, nobody can come up undefeated and be like, 'I'm gonna destroy everybody.' Look what happened to Cody 'No Love' [Garbrandt]. Undefeated, 26, becoming champion, and then boom, you get all these f***ing monsters going at it, knocking him out."
