“Winning this title would bring recognition” - Mayssa Bastos wants to prove herself on the global stage
Brazilian fighter Mayssa Bastos has already accomplished a lot in her BJJ career but seeks to take everything to a whole new level when she vies for the ONE world title in her scheduled match next month.
The 26-year-old BJJ black belt will challenge reigning champion Danielle Kelly of the United States for the atomweight submission grappling belt at ONE Fight Night 24: Brooks vs Balart on Prime Video on Aug. 2 in Bangkok, Thailand.
In an interview with ONE Championship ahead of her title match, Mayssa Bastos spoke of the importance of coming up with a victory in her upcoming fight, particularly on how it is going to be further validation for all the work she has put in her craft.
She said:
"Winning this title would bring recognition to the work I have done. Since ONE is a platform with global reach, it will help a lot. It would be great to show the world what I love to do and inspire people."
Mayssa Bastos is a multiple-time jiu-jitsu world champion, both in Gi and No GI. She made her ONE Championship debut back in March and was victorious over Kanae Yamada of Japan by unanimous decision.
Meanwhile, Kelly will be making her first defense of the world title she claimed last September.
ONE Fight Night 24 will emanate from the Lumpinee Stadium in Bangkok and will be available live and for free on U.S. primetime to North American fans with an active Amazon Prime Video subscription.
