“Wonderful match” - Fans give Jonathan Haggerty due praise for stunning ONE Championship debut against Joseph Lasiri
Jonathan Haggerty was one of the blue-chip recruits of ONE Championship in 2019. He was immediately tested by Joseph Lasiri when he made his promotional debut at ONE: Eternal Glory card, which went down inside the Istora Senayan in Jakarta, Indonesia.
The two striking stars went head-to-head in a flyweight Muay Thai contest, and the promotion recently reposted the full fight replay on YouTube with the description:
"Before two-sport ONE World Champion Jonathan Haggerty put his ONE Bantamweight Muay Thai World Title on the line against ONE Flyweight Kickboxing World Champion Superlek in a highly anticipated clash at ONE 168: Denver on September 6, relive his exceptional ONE debut against former strawweight Muay Thai king Joseph Lasiri at ONE: ETERNAL GLORY in 2019!"
It was a great battle of two technical fighters, and the narrative of the match was very clear: Haggerty chose to be the counterpuncher, and Lasiri was the aggressor who marched forward throughout the match.
But the biggest moment during the fight was the opening round knockdown that 'The General' scored with a step-through elbow strike that clipped 'The Hurricane' and sent him crashing down the canvas. This was enough for Haggerty to sway the judges in giving him a unanimous decision victory.
The incredible back-and-forth and thrilling matchup was greatly appreciated by fans, especially users @KK-xq2mc, @bobbyrules7682, @kilppa, @thomchristensen990, and @mohamedlahlal1372, who commented:
"Haggerty is the true style mauy thai definition. They stand together like this."
"haggerty is the beast ! But respect to lasiri for the constant pressure"
"THAT. WAS. SOMETHING. Wonderful match!"
"Great fight. Haggerty looked absolutely solid in the first round. Technical and precise. If he can find his way out of the corners he would have dominated the entire match."
"one hell of a fight 🔥🔥🔥"
