“Working on all aspects of the game” - Samat Mamedov plans to showcase full arsenal against Maurice Abevi at ONE 168
ONE Championship debutant Samat Mamedov expects be challenged greatly in his promotional debut against Maurice Abevi next month in the United States. He is preparing himself by working on all facets of his game with his team.
The rising MMA fighter from Kazakhstan will battle Abevi of Switzerland in a lightweight MMA showdown at ONE 168 in Denver, Colorado on Sept. 6. It is part of the card taking place at the Ball Arena and airing live and for free at U.S. primetime to North American fans with an active Amazon Prime Video subscription.
In an interview with ONE Championship in line with his promotional debut, the 25-year-old Mamedov provided an idea on how his preparation has gone, saying:
"We're preparing for everything, including stand-up, wrestling and clinching. In modern MMA, you can't rely on just one thing. My team and I are working on all aspects of the game."
Samat Mamedov went on to say that he is banking on his fighting IQ to tow him over the victory line against Abevi. He added:
"My biggest advantage will be my fighting IQ. I'm going to be explosive and keep attacking. I'm looking to finish the fight."
Prior to joining ONE Championship, Samat Mamedov established his reputation as a knockout artist on the regional circuit in Eastern Europe. He is now looking to showcase his talents on a more global platform under the 'Home of Martial Arts.'

Maurice Abevi seeks to add Samat Mamedov to his hit list
Swiss fighter Maurice Abevi seeks to make it three straight victories under ONE Championship at the expense of newcomer Samat Mamedov at ONE 168: Denver on Sept. 6 and further solidify his push in the lightweight MMA division.
The 24-year-old from Zurich has turned things around after losing in his ONE debut, bouncing back with consecutive victories, the most recent of which was over Zhang Lipeng of China last May by decision.
At ONE 168: Denver, Abevi will be facing Samat Mamedov, who is out to make a big splash in his maiden outing in the promotion.
